Giant change time

Thursday May 17th, 2012 at 10:22am

Friends, Romans and gays,

Some of you may know that I’ve been living and working on secondment in Berlin as of January this year. It’s pretty awesome here and I like it a lot, so I/we have decided to move here properly.

We’re going to get rid of the flat in London when the lease expires at the end of July and find a flat in Berlin for us both.

Work have agreed to my transfer to the Berlin office, which is pretty awesome news : D

This is a big change, especially for Liam who will need to learn German before finding work. Change is good as a rest, they say, so let’s see how right old proverbs are.

We’re gonna miss you all, but hope that you come visit us. The plan is to find somewhere to live that we can easily host others and then have people come visit as often as they like. And I’ve worked it out so we’ll be doing this just before the car crash that is the Olympics occurs : D

So yeah, gbye London with your congestion, council tax, shit air quality and crap politicians and hello Berlin with your giant park in the middle, proper cycle lanes, blue skies (well, right now ; )) and sensible transport systems.

All I gotta do now is register as a person and find a flat...

Incidentally, Berlin Pride (CSD) is on 23rd June. Berlin Stadtfest is on 16+17 June, if anyone fancies coming over for either, there’ll be floorspace : )

Plan for me is to head back to London for the week beginning 25th June - will be Pushing the Button on the Friday, Freakcity birthdaying on the Saturday and heading back to Berlin on the Monday. If any of you have a driving license and the ability to hire a van, I may have need of you late June/early July...

This is all a bit scary, but also all a bit very exciting and new. Bad or good, change is usually for the best, hoping that’s the case here : )

Dear Tower Hamlets

Wednesday May 2nd, 2012 at 20:52pm

Dear Tower Hamlets Council,

Well, more specifically, the Electoral Services Office.

I am very glad we have this amazing postal voting system that lets me have my say in how my city is run tomorrow. I am less glad, however, when you send me my postal vote on the 30th April. And I’m in Germany. And the 1st of May is a bank holiday. So I receive my postal vote at 10pm on the 2nd of May.

Inside, my postal vote says “This must reach us by 10pm, 3rd May to be counted”.

Thanks, no really, thanks.

If Boris gets in again, I’m holding you personally responsible.

Friends! If you weren’t going to vote tomorrow, can one of you kindly go and vote for me. For preference, @GreenJennyJones and @ken4london but if you can’t bring yourself to do that, hell, vote for anyone but Boris. For me. Because I’d have liked to, but I can’t...
