+Friday+ I popped out for a drink, waved at mage and Ray, Freddie popped out to say hai as well and we were joined later on by bittersweet, hotoli, lovecoffee and liam. Somehow ended up in the Swan, which was dire as ever. Had munchies, cabbed home via the dodgy offy and a shitload of onion rings. Fun night for all. Liam legged it Saturday morning to go meet his mum for lunch and I set about cycling to Camden to buy some new boots. I went via Canary Wharf Waitrose and a new wallclock for the livingroom. Heading through Hackney I made a stop off en route at Broadway Market. Slowly walked through all the foods feeling pretty damn hungry and so queued for a bit at a hog spitroast. Foccacia stuffed with freshly cooked piggy. Was even nicer than the pig buns we used to get in Norwich all those years ago. Terrifying... I took a wrong turn somewhere near Angel (predictably) as I came off the towpath and onto the roads. There’s a large (as in fricken large, as in nearly a kilometre) tunnel under Angel, which the canal goes along. Unfortunately there’s no towpath though, so no pedestrians or cycles. And the signs are utter rubbish, whoever erected them should be made to try and follow them. Not that I minded, was a nice day for a drive. Came back via Liverpool St, some foods at random places, The fun of playing with my bike won’t ever be over I don’t think. Came back along the weird back roads, was looking for a market but failed to find it. What I did find, however was a plimsoll shop that also did other shoes, so having failed to achieve Camden I popped my arse through the door to have them practically drool all over my army boots and tell me off for having looked after them so badly (I refrained from explaining “it’s a look” and simply nodded and smiled). They showed me some cheapy ones that they said would do me for a bit but that were nowhere near as good as what I had. And then explained that what I had were very rare and I’d probably have trouble finding any and if I did they’d be very expensive. I also refrained from telling them I bought them last year for £20 from Camden. So, having been thoroughly weirded out by them I decided to get lost a bit round East London. Which isn’t very easy as I know most of it, but I *did* get to go past a boxing club (mmmm boxers) and Whitechapel Sports Centre. Not on purpose, mind... Thought I’d have a peer in Blockbuster at any blu-ray stuff they had only to discover they had a “pre used” PS3 game section. Marvellous! So, having spent £70 on a copy of Transformers and a second sixaxis controller, I departed to be faced with a sign for a pointless tat shop where most things were a tenner. Result! Popped in and bought a huge expensive and rather lovely coat for £10... Headed home and played flOw with TJ, (there’s a really cute two player mode) dismantled servers and generally set about making a mess of things. My new router was plugged in, hacking commensed, it’s running BusyBox and therefore understands iptables, meaning I can simply slip it into debug mode and run the old firewall. Downside is that something somewhere is preventing the DNS server from seeing the outside world, so I’ve had to move freakcity’s NS somewhat. Sunday I was up fairly early setting up more bits of network. Putting novak into newnovak resulted in a random “unable to find ’/dev/root’” error without it booting at all, so I’ll be fiddling with that a little. going to try it again tomorrow night I think. Dragged TJ out of bed and headed off to Richer Sounds to buy a Yamaha RXV361 and a set of "Yamaha NSP110":<www.richersounds.co.uk/showproduct.php?cda=showproduct&pid=YAMA-NSP110>s — needless to say, kinda pricey, kinda skint now but damn they sound good... ""Dear Diary, Why are all my friends mad! Is it a reflection on myself? Love Scott xxx "" Bought Hollow Man on blu-ray last night. Seeing it in high def doesn’t really make it much better, sadly. And I swear half of it wasn’t remastered, just upsized. Annoying. Also bought flOw for the PS3 — which is an amazing puzzle/game/thing that you can watch others playing for hours, you get to be a little fish thing and have to eat little plankton things and stuff. It’s so mellow and fluffy that we ended up sitting up until 1am watching it. Whoops, I was up at 5:30 that morning too. Made it in early today for Fryday. Every month, the company hires a restaurant and puts on the most amazing fryup imaginable. Damn I feel fat now ; ) Tonight I’m going to either go out or stay in. I am as yet undecided. I may play with gadgets and put novak2 together. Not yet sure. I have a new DSL router thing that should double the speed of our net connection, which’ll be grand...

It’s far too early to be up. Bah. Hysteria on fitlads yesterday led to fruitbat being banned for being too popular, which was a first for him I think. All very surreal. Apparently Joe used to be on IRC and on here and decided to be all sulky about it (calling us the London clique, even though ’bat lives in the wirral). So an entertaining evening was apparently had by all... Had planned on getting novak2 all up and running but there’s bits missing which’d limit me to no backup drive. So I might just put it up there without backup for now. In theory I can just take the main drive out of Novak and it’ll all just work. My NAS arrives tomorrow (fingers crossed) as do the USB2 enclosures for the video and porn drives (cough)...I can apparently install linux on it using www.nslu2-linux.org/ which means I can install MediaTomb and have it all working through the PS3. Which means no whirring laptop in the bedroom as a firewall/irc server. No whirring desktop in the livingroom as a media server/shell server. Might save a bit of leccy too... Torchwood was predictably disappointing yesterday. Kids plots are kids plots. You can’t just slap on a bit of gore and the occasional “fuck” to make it adult. Someone should teach them how to write. Tear at our heart strings. Make us fall in love, experience loss, care a damn about the people we’re watching and we’ll reward you with viewing figures. Don’t and we’ll try and remember to tune in but ultimately forget all about you. Failed to win the lottery again. Pah. Confused this Saturday with next Saturday too so I’m now not doing XXL and am probably going to do Justin’s party for a bit instead I think. But am on call so might not. Been invited out in Camden on Friday but not until 10pm which is a bit too late for me as I need to be at home checking things on the shop at midnight. So I’m going to do Camden on Saturday (or possibly Sunday). I feel the need to buy new boots as mine are disintegrating. Payday tomorrow. And not a moment too soon : D

But I have a new TV, new PS3 and new bookshelves. And some Blu-Ray discs. It makes me very happy. Saturday morning my first Blu-Ray disc arrived. Spiderman 3. The horror ; ) I popped to Stratford to buy an HDMI cable and then when I returned we had breakfast and settled down for a bit of HD Spidey action. Liam was fairly sure he’d not notice the quality until it started playing and we both sat there pretty amazed at how good it all looked. Then we headed out to meet Chris at the Prince Charles Cinema and watched Southland Tales — critics suck. It was an amazing film, gave the impression of a rollercoaster hurtling towards inevitability and a glimpse of how bad the US could get. So many famous people in it, critics called it confused and disappointing but I have to disagree. As a story about the end of the world it works really really well. Seann William Scott actually does acting, who’d have thought? Even The Rock was good. I headed home whilst Liam and Chris headed out for a coffee, which apparently failed. I was bored so texted Liam at around 9ish to find out he was a bit the worse for weather in Retro. So ended up spending my evening getting more than a little drunken with an everso slightly sozzled Liam. Had deep and meaningful conversations that we probably shouldn’t have had when pissed. Ah well. Bought a large pine bookshelf for my ever expanding DVD collection, the idea being I’d put one either side of the telly as I’d run out of DVD space. My original DVD bookshelf is now working as an actual bookshelf in the hall, with actual books in it. Well, that and a load of old VHS tapes that I need to ebay. I think I might have an eBay frenzy at the weekend...mostly to get rid of old shite that other people would probably want : ) So, immensely hungover, myself and Liam ended up in Lewisham at Argos on Sunday with a flat packed 23kg 1.8m tall bit of wrapped wood. I’m not doing that again, took forever to carry it to the DLR. Attempted to buy a trolley in Woolies but they had none. Walking was no fun. So DIY Sunday ensued, we made a huge mess and it was great fun. Monday, back at work, tired. Got back home and watched lots of The Sarah Jane Adventures and The Sarah Connor Chronicles number 2. Head? Head!? METAL Head?!? Through time?! Did they not even watch the films? Bed earlyish. Decided I’d try and buy a second bookshelf so got up early on Tuesday and packed rope and scissors in my bag. My theory being that the bookshelf, whilst being fantastically heavy, would be tieable to my bike and if not rideable at least pushable. More LTOs at work. Fun. Did some scoping for some new Orange work which I’m going to try and get to do, haven’t done any fun javascript in a while...and also am lobbying for a standards compliant new front end for bits of it. Will see how it pans out. Had a meeting with my line manager a few weeks back, I told him that after a year on Orange I was getting a bit fed up with it all. Am thinking about doing some .NET stuff for a bit too, though not yet sure. I’ve done my java training, all I need now is to book the SCJP exam and take a day off for study the day before and I’ll have a shiny new qualification. So there’s enough to keep me on the java side at a push, I just quite fancy the idea of doing something a bit different I guess. Tuesday evening I popped out to Argos and bought a bookshelf. Tied it to my bike and proceeded to walk home pushing it with little trouble. The fun ; ) See flickr for photos... : D Tonight it’s new Torchwood. It’s still terrible but in a sort of fun way. Not quite used to having a telly yet, getting a little annoyed with it being on constantly so had words with TJ who predictably denied all knowledge. And then proceeded to channel hop for most of the rest of the evening. Le sigh. Going to pick up a new amp and speakers at the weekend, Justin’s party on Sat evening too which I’m going<

I am now the proud owner of an HD plasma panel. And about to be the proud owner of a PS3 and some Blu-Ray discs to play on it. I think I’m quite happy about that but also quite poor. Oops ; ) new iTunes 7.6 supports 64bit Vista *at fucking last* so I was able last night to reacquaint my iPod Touch with my laptop and delete VMWare and 5 gig of virtual XP. Also, new 1.1.3 upgrade. Apparently I can now put shortcuts to web pages on my home screen. Woo. iPhone users can now SMS more than one person at once too. Woo! Fuckwits ; ) Google maps for iPhone got a big revamp and can now work out where you are roughly by GSM triangulation apparently, which is like a poor man’s GPS. Could be fun. Apparently I need to pay $20 dollars for all the apps that come with the iPhone to get them on the touch, even though I’ve already got them all. So I’m guessing they might make 1.1.3 a bit harder to jailbreak as they’ll actually lose money out of it this time. Found a free first episode of something called Damages on iTunes. It’s apparently on the beeb now too, so I might start watching it, it’s vaguely interesting. So yeah. The weekend was mostly spent watching telly. Oopsie. The Fountain looks gorgeous on it, but it’s also available on Blu-Ray so I’ll be getting that come payday I thinks. Friday we went to Music is my Boyfriend in Kilburn as peoplepoo was playing and had guestlisted me (yeah baby, I never go anywhere where I’m not listed...). blaireatedcookie was there having escaped Scotlandshire, along with zaty, Adam, Gareth, Léigh, various other people and an Iggy I managed to avoid. The first band were so shit I’ve forgotten their name, but the second band, Cats in Paris were amazing — I shall be acquiring their EP I think. Terry got everyone dancing, even though Blair remained unimpressed and then the Wave Pictures attempted badly to be a sensible band. Having seen then at the George last month I was unimpressed with them. They were a lot more relaxed, a lot more fun and in their element. Plus, did they kill Mr Violin or what? Incidentally, boys, Radiohead are playing Rough Trade East tonight at 8pm. Doors open at 7 and it’s free. If you fancy being squashed like a sardine in a can into East London, pop down to Rough Trade (just round the corner from Truman Gallery, Brick Lane) and tell them Scottypoos sent you. Not that they’ll care, mind...

3gp:https://www.freakcity.net/test/11998730235974_1.3gp Depression time again. So I look at my life and work out what needs changing. Causes of depression include diet, exercise, light and external factors for most people. I can’t do anything about the external factor in this but the other three I can. I’ve not been cycling lately because the new year blessed me with a puncture, so I’ve not been getting exercise or an hour of natural light each day. I know this will make me feel better as it has in the past. Depression makes it very hard to do anything though, even the tiniest problem seems unsurmountable. You probably won’t understand unless you’ve been there, but it’s immense fun. Not. Work for the last week has been like pulling teeth. So, I’ve been working on my diet and I made myself fix my puncture last night. Left this morning a bit late and 2 miles in to my 5 mile ride to work I get another puncture. Either something has been left in my tyre or the tape has come off the rim and I didn’t notice or I’m very fucking unlucky. Grr. Choice of walking it to work or walking it home is decided by lack of ability to fix it at work, so it’s 10am, I’m already an hour late and I’m sat on the DLR. How annoying? Going to take the kevlar slicks off my old bike I think? This is my 4th puncture in 3 months and I went a year without any on my old bike. Le sigh.

Bought Radiohead’s new album yesterday. Properly, like, with cash and got one of them CD things. Imagine if you held their entire career up in front of a mirror and then shattered the mirror and captured the reflected bits on a CD and released it. Moments that twinkle, hint at greatness but don’t ever get there. Disconnected beats pull heavily sampled guitars across distorted vocals and bass in a lyrically vague mess of sound that NME probably called groundbreaking. Where did it all go so wrong? Chinese for lunch. Too much talking of health with ljos at the weekend led to this predictable reaction. Oops ; ) Camping happening in the last bank holiday of May. See the events section. Need to book it all after I have a vague idea of attendance.

Weird surreal dreamtastic

Friday January 4th, 2008 at 13:36pm

Had a dream last night that Mum sent me a text reading “Nanna just finished celebrating her last christmas” and I replied with “you mean?” and got “yes” as a reply back. It felt horribly real. Bah. Guessing it’s not the case though, as I bumped into mum outside the office when getting a potato for lunch and she seemed cheery enough. Met one of her team, who looked a bit shocked at me. Bless. So, no norovirus for me, or if I have it’s being muted by my overexcited immune system from having had flu before xmas. Who can say? I feel achey, I’m getting surreal dreams, I can feel my body being a bit run down, I feel immensely tired and I haven’t thrown up or had anything other than an unhappy stomach and the feeling of billiousness. Listening to Patrick Watson. He’s fun. In places he almost sounds like Lenny Kravitz, in places like Jeff Buckley on happy pills. Curious mix that works very well. buy it or the kittens get it. seeing Liam tomorrow. Very much looking forward to it as the last time I saw him was before Christmas. Doing lunch with a friend of his, Tom, who he claims to be "a younger footle" — could be strange but fun. Too hot. Think the aircon might be broken in the office. Don’t know. Listened to a bit of Duke Special on random by accident yesterday. Immediate thought was “why have I got the Moulin Rouge soundtrack on here”, followed by “but I don’t recognise this track”. Surreality. Watched Breakfast on Pluto yesterday, interesting, very good, somewhat surreal and odd in places. Couldn’t help but think Kitten was a bizarre antihero, all she really wanted was to be left alone but she didn’t really stand up for herself much. Strangeness. Some good lines though and some amazing photography and incredible acting from Cillian Murphy Need to think of some ideas for new year pics for freakcity and need to update the front page I think. I might do a little bit tonight.

[b[Outrage as publicity-mad chief constable says ’ecstasy is safer than aspirin’ ]b] <> Well. Firstly, I have no idea how they can claim it kills almost 50 people a year when there’ve only been 80 deaths in the UK attributed to it in the last 10 years. Secondly, between 1993 and 2004, a comparable time frame, over 450 people died from the effects of aspirin poisoning — perhaps they should consider training their journalists better... Pics up on flickr of the new year fireworkses. - was interesting, but we were clearly in entirely the wrong place. And we were waaay too early, leading to us standing in the rain for 2 hours, bored. Got home and drank champagne/beer until 10am Saturday. Woops. So all in all a very quiet new year : ) Seeing Liam on Saturday, can’t wait : D
