Musings on a world I am no longer sure about
WooFuckingHoo
I just got a mobile bill for £450! Right. Listen carefully, I shall say this only once... I bought, two weeks ago, a 3G GPRS Datacard thing. Subscribed to the Orange Mobile Office 400 Service Plan on my existing account and hey presto, I figure I have 400mb to fritter away. My billing date is the 19th So I get my bill, and discover I’ve used 133.333333 mb of my allocation, and the rest is chargeable. At £1.49 per mb (or something ridiculous) And that I’ve actually used 659 megabytes, not the 396 the Orange Dashboard Megabyte Counter said I had... I phone up a lovely sounding Irish man at Orange’s billing centre who expresses admiration at the amazing figure for my bill then puts me on hold for a few weeks as he tries to sort this out... He gets back to me and tells me that the data plan is only for 3G coverage, if you drop out of 3G and onto GPRS you’re not covered and therefore are paying per megabyte. IF this is true, I wasn’t told about it and can find no reference to it anywhere...what legs do I have to stand on? I have a 14day money back guarantee. I’m tempted to take the card back, as if this is the case then its not suited for the purpose for which it was sold to me. Pretty fucking pointless if I can only use the free bundle in 3G areas... Although looking at the figure used (133.3333etc) I can’t help but think that maybe they’ve done the 400mb pro rata as well as the charge for it (as they’ve only charged me 15 instead of 45 for the service plan). This was absolutely not made clear to me at all or even mentioned anywhere when I got it. So...er...help? The second problem I have with this is the total data transfer. Orange claim this is 659.12 meg I used the inbuilt metering on Orange’s 3g Dashboard application to measure it very carefully to 396 meg. It has a built in megabyte counter...and I have no idea what the discrepancy is or where it’s come from...surely their software can’t be *that* wrong? Though it did differ wildly from the modem thing on windows... I am so very happy about all this. Very happy. I am going to shout at them in the shop tomorrow. And if all else fails I’m going to try something fun involving a red hot poker...

Anotherball!
I appear to be in an odd mood. Again I have this feeling I should run off and do stuff. Again I suspect that by tonight I will be far too knackered and all I will want is a nice pint and some fags. I need to do some work on freakcity, but finding motivation will be hard...most of the time at the moment I don’t want to look at a computer
I’m having a bit of a downloadfest at the moment...Have so far acquired the latest American dross and much much more. Might delete Buffy from the server as I have it on DVD now.
So I’ve been thinking about this p2p lark and how record companies are being affected by it - I conclude that they are barking up the wrong tree. If they invest in worthwhile artists then produce something of note and value from them...well. Morrissey is in the top 10 at the moment *because* Morrissey fans see what he has produced as having value....they will buy every single in every format and the album. Morrissey isn’t in the top ten because he’s become more popular, I suspect it’s because people are buying less dross and just swapping it on p2p.
That said, this is his best album since “Your Arsenal”, even though only about half the songs are any good...
Got home at a half decent time last night. Again, the day after the release and I manage to fix most of the annoying bugs that were irritating me yesterday. Most of which were caused by java developers’ crap understanding of HTML. Gah!
Downloaded “Lost” - Heard many good things about it, not least that David Fury ("They got the must-aaa-rd ooo-ut") is a writer for it.
They’ve released a “Smile Time” Angel puppet! I want one! It’s all floppy and has a moving mouth and everything
Anyway - Lost is really quite good. The grandeur of the opening episode is almost filmic and am looking forward to seeing the next few to see where they go from here.
Am also downloading Carnivale as it looks intriguing...
Sat night am taking Adam (and possibly Dominic) to XXL - Chris should be there - has promised me a huge hug as I’ve not seen him in aaages...should be fun!
Might try and see Dan tonight if he’s not busy shagging...
Urg. They’re playing shitty xmas strings music in Hammersmith station. I hate this time of year.
So yeah. Most of the tube journeys for the last two days have been lost to Anotherball - a palm clone of Arkanoid/Breakout
I may have to buy it...I’ve finished the first four levels
