Tuesday September 30th, 2003 at 9:26am

Well. I’ve run out of even the bits of work I didn’t have to do but did in an attempt to look busy. Bah. Bike computer has restuck itself on “travelling time” now. I’ve been cycling for 90 minutes since I washed it. Or something : ) The company has just joined “Customs-Trade Partnerships Against Terrorism” or C-TPAT for short. I think I sniggered. We’re all to undertake 4 hours of training at our leisure in how to spot people with beards, or something. XP randomly started working again last night, strangely, but fuck it, I’m recompiling KDE 3.2 Alpha 2 for fun anyways. Ate the remains of Sunday’s chinese reheated. I’m so classy. Failed entirely to go shopping as I really couldn’t be bothered with going shopping. Didn’t die yet from food poisoning, which is probably a good thing, at least until I have to fill in my tax returns. Pretty morning, but dark...suspect I’ll need to dig out my ickle cutesy bike light things before long, even though I have no idea where on earth they are... Haven’t heard from spiritusmundispit in a while, tho he posted a link to his “electroclash makeover” night to queerdrinks yesterday. Hope no-one hungover looked at it because it’s hideous, but still, that’s the plan : ) He seems to have taken to calling Mr Matt Lippiat Esq “lippy”, somewhat surrealy. Got email from Scott Capurro’s tour manager about some freelance work. Watched new Lord of the Rings trailer. Still not King.

Birthday

Monday September 29th, 2003 at 9:58am

Well...I managed to drink almost a litre of vodka on Friday in a rather uncharacteristic bout of feeling sorry for myself...Tom came round to check I was ok, but I’d talked to James some and put my shields up somewhat by the time he arrived. We watched Requiem for a Dream - me slurring stuff about the pretty photography probably didn’t help, but hey. Tom brought me chocolate : D So I showed him “Kids in the Hall” and then he went home happy. Or something ; ) So my 29th birthday was started as I woke up to the sound of Andy singing to me on the answerphone. Phoned back, after downing a large V&C and chatted lots with my mother and pointed out how chatty I was when hungover, which probably cheered her up no end ; ) I’ve never tried drinking in the morning, so I did, just to see what it was like. OK, so it was more like afternoon, but hey... I had half a glass of V&C and then promptly ran out so I stopped again. Sleepily crawled back into bed to wait for James to come round and hug me...which we did. Got up eventually and then made our way to Tower Hill, where we met lowlandcactus (Sunin) and Harry and Winjer fresh from the march (yeah right...the pub) Everyone else managed to be puncually inadiquate, Dom and Pete managing to turn up almost an hour late, so we drank, we ate, we drank more... I had squished up pig bits in butter followed by cow chunk and chips. It was still bleeding gorgeously ; ) Also managed to get through almost two entire jugs of water. God was I hungover. Waved at Blaine a bit...was briefly amused by two people walking past..."there’s a person up there! Look!" “nah there’s not, you’re having me on” "no really, there is!" etc. I don’t even have a telly and I know he’s there. Tsk. Some people! Got home, managed to sleep badly - not helped by James having a nightmare half way through the night and scaring the crap outta me ; ) Woke up, pootled about...watched Angel again, giggled @ stand-in effects, bummed about on computers...chatted lots with James about relationship and stuff...who knows what’s gonna happen now Slept like a log and woke up this morning still knackered and feeling like I’m coming down with flu (which I’m not) and like I’ve been crying for a week (which I’ve not). Ah well...things can only get better, as they say...tho by the look of the Labour Party I suspect Peter Cunnagh was lying. Motto of the day. "I’m having a bad day, I just need to get up and sort out the details..."

hm....

Sunday September 21st, 2003 at 18:50pm

Got halfway through updating this thing and it broke, so I gave up yesterday. Well. Went out Friday for a quiet drink that ended up not being so quiet. space_chicken was bored and wanted to go for a drink, owen was at Retro and so we went to join him. boyblu (Chris) was also there, recovering from having been run over by a bus on Tuesday. Or something like that. He was a tad wrecked too, as he forgot to take his drugs on Thurs and so took double on Fri to make up for it...something that sounded suspiciously like “peroxide” which probably explains his internal blondness ; ) Owen decided he liked Adam (space_chicken) on account of Adam being the only person able to shut Chris up. Which he did frequently and comically, as Chris seemed unable to manage a comeback to that angelic face... So we got more drunk. Owen, having sniffed gin seemed mysteriously and rather suddenly to be going to Chariots with Nav. We opted for the Swan. Kevin and MrsKevin (god, I am so crap with names, think it might have been Darren but not sure) turned up too...only ever met Kevin once, but he’s cool, and Darren seemed really nice as well. Tho sat at their table were the most obnoxious pooves ever. The types that shout out loud and offensive statements because it’s far easier for them than creating a conversation of their very own. Kevin attempted to remove one of them temporarily with a ruse that involved giving the loudest one a shiny gold coin for the jukebox in the hope that that would keep him busy for a few minutes. Sadly it backfired when he returned within a minute with more drinks and proceeded to loudly sing to everything he’d put on... 11pm arrived far too quickly, so we all staggered for the bus (cept Kevin who wasn’t drinking) and jumped on board, running for the back like lil schoolkids. We then took a whiff of the huge pile of vomit that we all entirely failed to notice on the way in and ran for upstairs, retching. Upon arrival at the Swan, both Adam and Chris went to the bar and returned, each with a drink for the other. Which mostly set the tone for the rest of the evening. We talked at length about life, death and shopping, all came away with a sense of having had a great time, I suspect only Kevin knows that all we did was slur incoherently into our drinks. Some of us danced. Ben was there and was raving about having started performance art again, which sounded really good fun. All piled back to the flat, sans Ben, for more drinks and stuff. Woke up in the morning at about 12:05pm to a bouncing chicken that should really have been gagged. I so want to be there for his first hangover 0: -) We bummed about the flat, I put on the Requiem for a Dream OST very loud as it’s great for hangovers and the two remaining people in the flat seemed impressed with the noises so I ascertained from that that they’d not seen Requiem for a Dream and slapped it on. Both were suitably impressed I think. I played them a bit of Darren Aronofsky’s interview with Hubert Selby Jr (the author of both that and Last Exit to Brooklyn) and Ellen Burstyn just so they could get a sense of what she looked like without the fantastic makeup they made her wear in the film... After much discussion about that, we decided (well, I did) to do some photos for Adam, as he seemed to be losing clothes throughout the day anyways and was down to his boxers ; ) Took about 50 or so, some which came out very well, some which were very silly. He’s a natural poser. The poser. We all had fun and they left and I buggered about online for a bit and then went to sleep for a while so I could get up bright an early for my Mother today. Went out, took them to Shad Thames and Butler’s Wharf, went for brekkie in Browns, went and waved at Blaine, decided the queue for City Hall was far too big to even contemplat

Timing!

Wednesday September 17th, 2003 at 9:48am

My refund from Scam arrives just in time to stop me from going over my limit. Class : D I might get paid today. I have resolved not to buy any funkeh electronic gadgets this month so I don’t run out of money again. I might even pay my council tax too : D Think I’ll leave the new moboness until after I’ve sorted my finances out a little. Took more pics of marcus last night - kinda ok, but it’s so hard getting the light right when outdoors and at night that not all of them worked well. If I had mobile lights then I’d be fine, but hey, I’m not allowed to buy funkeh electronic gadgets... fire.ethosuk.org.uk/~scott/random/marcus3 Planted all my plants the night before last. Wonder how long before I can kill them too? I am so bad with plants they should pay me not to buy them.

Scam sillyness

Monday September 15th, 2003 at 10:10am

Ordered a new mobo 2 weeks ago from Scan - they said “shipped on Monday” so I got to Monday, took Tuesday at home, was told Monday at 7pm that there was a problem with Tuesday and that they were sorrry, but whenever it was shipped it would still be next day delivery... Heard nothing for a week. Last Monday I emailed them to say “get it here this week or refund me” Grovelling apology on Tuesday, with a promise that it’d been made a priority and had been marked for someone’s attention, etc - and then nothing. Mailed Saturday saying “fine, don’t bother, refund meh” Reply this morning saying “Order cancelled, refund will be processed ASAP” Email 1 hour later saying “Order at stage 3 of 4 - it’s been picked, should be shipped today” fuckwits ; )

Creak creak

Monday September 15th, 2003 at 9:49am

Bleh. My bike is all creaky : S I have no idea what part of it is at issue either, although I suspect it’s not the part Halfords seem to think it is. Watched more of B5 S2 last night with James...I was feeling crappy and so went to bed early...James stayed the night because he was feeling too ill to go home. Lots of very strange dreams - one of which involved staying the night in a house with lots of friends, another involved racism, Americans and playing baseball in my gran’s garden. My brain appears to be odd ; ) Decided, after I woke up all on my own at 6:20, to get up anyway - so I left for work at bang on 7:30, figured it’d mean I could get there at a reasonable time, regardless of creaks. Arrived at London Bridge in time to get a delayed train to Brighton. Figured it’d get me there even earlier. Didn’t count on the logic of the freaks that run Thameslink - it was changed to fast at Gatwick...waited about on platform 5 for 5 minutes before realising that the next train wasn’t going to arrive until almost 9 and I might as well cycle - which I did - from Gatwick. I think I might have got lost too, but I’m not 100% sure. Still, I got to the office on time : ) Rest of the guys are either on holiday or on a ship visit today. So it’s very quiet round here...and I don’t really have very much to do today either - so I’m going to restructure the templates and chill out. Without food...as I forgot my wallet. D’oh!

Holy crap

Sunday September 14th, 2003 at 16:04pm

I left out - it appears to have started off World War III. I suspect I shall be blamed for it. I left Out because I rarely use it any more (having made here) and my license expired yesterday. I’m not gonna stick around for the orange nag screens again, not for anyone. Ew. So I changed my name to “last day here” or something, and when I got bored I pressed “delete” and thought nothing of it. James came over and we watched lots of B5 S2, which arrived yesterday. We’re both still doing comedy shits. I wonder when it’ll end? Went to bed fairly early...James didn’t sleep very well, but I managed to sleep OK until about 7am, so I got up and worked on my corporate site, which is now finished : D Decided to cycle to London Bridge to get a new travelcard - on the way back I went BlaineSpotting He looked bored. Loads of traffic and people watching him tho...scary! As another wise man once said “One idiot chooses to starve himself for 44 days and the world watches. 1 billion have no choice and the world ignores them” Got home to find email from Owen telling me that apparently there was an out thread about me leaving. spiritusmundispit just had to mention here, and start off many arguments. Many many arguments. Got James to log in so I could have a giggle...had a giggle...logged out. Can’t see the fascination with it. People must leave Out more than once a month...why me!

Spirali M Budget?

Friday September 12th, 2003 at 11:24am

Today is definitely shaping up to be a double espresso day. There’s a big label on our Klingon speaking food+drink dispenser reading “Spirali M budget”. I’m left trying to work out if that’s the name of the owner or its model. For your delight and delectation, I have discovered a page entirely in Italian about it. Today it is speaking animated Klingon. All the little characters in the green window are scrolling about in a lovely display somewhat reminiscent of the KuBar message board. Makes about as much sense as well.

ick

Friday September 12th, 2003 at 11:07am

Went out last night (on a school night! Nawty me!) for a drink with William and Danny (who has an absolutely stunning coldsaw ; )) Had a Burgerking, drank far too much and smoked, which was nawty, but hey, they were lights *cackle*. Sat outside CXR amongst the homeless people and gays talking politics and religion interspersed with “Danny, get a JOB” for far too long. Not seen William in a few months, he’s looking good...still has all these silly Tory ideas, but hey, I doubt I’ll ever beat that out of him. He is determined that I should be earning more and looking after number one (like hello? What do you think working for a living for myself is?). Explained about the G*meche thing - William was under the impression that I’d got him to get a domain name, which is why he was mean to me. Wonder which fount of information THAT came from. Giggled at the news about the Soham copper, who after being let off because not all the evidence against him was in order, managed to get arrested yesterday for perverting the course of justice. All sounds a little preposterous to me, really ; ) Danny and I outlived William, who staggered off at some point close to midnight - we then drunkenly decided to go back to the flat to drink more (free) vodka and chat, but Danny remembered he’d turned off one of his servers and so wouldn’t be able to SSH into it. Waited for EVER for a bus. James gave me no sympathy at all, dammit. So eventually crawled into bed at 2ish, after swigging a pint of water. Got up bright and breezy (yeah right) at the usual 6:40 - managed to make it to the station in time to miss my train, the next train was then 20 mins late and I ended up arriving in the office at close to 10. Bah. Ah well, I’ve not got much to do until Da Boss comes out of his meeting and tells us if we’re working elsewhere next week. Could be interesting ; ) Why do Americans in airports a) clutter up walkways, b) have an inability to use something as simple as a cash machine and c) ignore anyone who isn’t American, even when I’m talking RIGHT AT THEM

Let’s just spare a thought for the hundreds of thousands killed so far in the “War against Terror” since September 11th 2001. The thousands that have died in Afghanistan, the tens of thousands that have died in Iraq. The millions that will die due to Dubya’s foolish policies I am so glad I don’t have a TV - I’d probably spend the evening throwing things at it. Wonder if I should organise an event round Owen’s to go and watch Towering Inferno : )

books, etc

Wednesday September 10th, 2003 at 10:01am

I’ve finished “Stranger in a Strange Land” - it’s pretty damn good! Apparently the version I read isn’t the version that was first released, it’s about 70,000 words thicker (yay) as the original was deemed a) a tad too long and b) had stuff removed so as not to offend “public taste”. Group sex is nawty, see ; ) Wish that the book hadn’t ended so soon, like the Lord of the Rings, the universe is so compelling that you want to know what happens to the remaining characters. Last night, mostly bored, I watched X2. not a bad sequel, but not as awe inspiring as the trailer had me to believe. Answered a few questions, which was nice, and Lenshaw’s character was interesting, tho would have been more interesting without the inevitable “bad guy” thing at the end. Watching "Alan Cummings" playing a mutant was interesting. Still think he needed at least one “Ooh dearie me” in there, but hey ; ) It’ll be interesting to see what they do with Phoenix - Jean Grey’s character seemed definitely to be building up to that, and X men 3 is slated for release in 2006. And was that Hank McCoy I saw in the newscast when Mystique is seducing the security guard? ; ) In other news - watched the B5 TVM “Legend of the Rangers”. Lyta’s “no longer with us” : ’( And I wasn’t aware that Andreas Katsulas could be any camper, but I was proven wrong. Not a bad attempt, but it seemed like the CGI was skimped on and the acting was straight from “The Bold And the Beautiful”. Not a bad plot I suppose, and the ghost in one sequence was actually quite scary, tho the premise was tired and old. 5/10 Failed entirely to finish the KHRP stuff I was meant to do, but I’d just had far too much of a stressy day to really care much. Ah well. Kinda wondering what to do with my life right now. I can stay with what I know, understanding that I’m not really very happy. Or I can make a few drastic changes and take the risk that being “not really very happy” isn’t feeling miserable, but could be. I need a change, everything feels stagnant. I’m going to start by changing my mind and body, and hope that my hypothesis is correct. If it is, I shall write a book ; )

Tuesday September 9th, 2003 at 9:27am

I did a whole poo last night. It feels so much better! Still reading the reprint of “Stranger in a Strange Land” - am very impressed with both the writing and the symbolism. Wonder if Heinlein studied Kaballah or something when he was younger, or merely grokked the truth correctly and wrote about it ; ) “Thou Art God” - I’m not surprised this became his swansong Maybe I should write? It strikes me that certain people will buy anything with merely the smallest hint of truth in it, why not add aomething to the market with huge wadges of truth packaged for normal people? Teach people not to be afraid to see their own weaknesses, teach people to seperate lie from truth, teach people how to unsettle others (ok, maybe not the last part ; )) I want to create The Guide - I will add it to freakcity, members will be able to add their world lessons about any subject to it. It’ll take a while to create, but I think that it could be lovely, in a wiki kinda way - a guide to life, a guide to London, a guide to blue navel fluff, any self perceived wisdom about a subject wouldn’t be too small to enter here. I suspect writing a framework for it would be easy enough - editing it would be a nightmare, but fun (and hey, I’ve not been an editor in about 5 years - am outta practice). Just how to stop fuckwits abusing it to try and appear “clever” to their much needed audience.

Mmm. Asparagus soup. And work have made all coffee/tea/hot chocolate from the machine FREE. OK, so it was only 5p a cup anyways, but hey. FREE! Still feel rough, but my poo is slowly congealing into more and more solid form, so I guess all I can do is eat my vitamins, eat normally and grin and bear it. Less achey too, tho it’s still noticeably achey. Still beardy too...not sure if I should keep it for a bit or go back to goatee. I might keep it for a bit as I’ve never been beardy before and it could be fun. In other news, I’ve booked flights to Limoges, gonna take James and visit James - should be fun. If anything I reckon James’ll get on with the band an stuff - they have the same kinda taste in music : )

Still pooing like a river, tho one of them had bits in...that might be a good sign I guess? Waiting for owen to arrive - he’s drunk and in Poplar and missed his lift and my sofa is far more convenient than nightbuses ; ) Watched Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets the other day. It’s ok, but I still can’t see what all the fuss is about. Still don’t like stuff that jumps wildly from one suposition to the next in a highly improbable chain of events that only the 14 year old child can see, and all the very clever people around him who have been doing this stuff for years can’t see - and then all the suppositions turn out to be true! Still can’t see what all the fuss is about. Maybe I’ll read the book. Tho if it’s as close to the book as I suspect the film is, maybe I’ll not bother ; )
