Musings on a world I am no longer sure about

A change is as good as a rest

Monday April 30th, 2007 at 15:30pm

So I was fed up and annoyed by stuff everything in the world. So I decided to be a bit different. So now I’m a bit more smiley and happy and fluffy and stuff like that. Heh. Last week was a bit icky. Had broken aircon at work for most of it, didn’t do much other than toodle home and feel shitty. Ended up being poorlysick on Friday and so spent the day not doing very much at all. Tom msn’d to call me a skiver, so in revenge I’m going to make all his sim events crap. Slept lots. pretty pretty pic (clicky)
pretty pretty pic
Tues I did dinner at Wings with Justin to talk about the boating thing. Sorta managed to talk about it...heh. Will do some more thinking and then book things later in the week I think. We were both on our bikes, so I cycled back to the Greenwich foot tunnel with J when he was heading home and then cycled round the other side and took some pretty pretty photos. Friday also saw the arrival of my new B5 script book, which was interesting as it talked about the period of time between Seasons 4 and 5 of B5 and Claudia Christian’s departure. My 4gig SD card also arrived, which is rather good, now I can put movies and stuff onto my cards as well as the entire of my CD collection : D I’m thinking about doing an amusing photo for flickr... Saturday I was feeling substantially more human. Chatted to Lloyd a bit, he’d been having trouble with his computer and then it started being dead on startup so wanted some advice. Told him to find someone gullible with a car who might give him a lift over with it. Decided, as it was lovely, that the barbecue should be a go. Then chatted to Ulf who informed me he’d double booked me. Bah. Decided on the “not leaving the flat” option and gave him the option to come here, but he wouldn’t do it. Bought some bits and bobs from the butcher (they do 3 trays of meat for a fiver, got barbecue style chicken, chinese style chicken and chicken fillets). Bought more bacon from them as their bacon is WAY nicer than supermarket shite. And some cumberland sausages too. Popped into Woolies and bought a barrel barbecue as well, as they’re pretty small and they were half price. Going to take it camping as well I think. Rounded up a few people for the barbecue, tho it wasn’t quite as big as I’d hoped. Ah well. We ate food, the chinese style chicken looked suitably vile in the binbag (bright red) as to scare a few people into thinking it was blood. OllieCook brought a friend of his, Ben, with him, who I recognised from Ku...as did Mogs, who did a pretty good impression of a small cat on heat ; ) Ben and Ali were there too, which was nice, as I’ve not seen them in aaages. And Peter turned up as well. Made burgers, which worked well. Although I didn’t really have enough meat to do them properly so some were a funny size. They all buggered off leaving an incredibly fluffydrunk mogs and myself (and Ben for a short time). We continued drinking and for some reason ended up critiquing bi porn. No actual clue why... Bed at 7am. Urg. Up Sunday and decided to go out and buy a new keyboard and stuff, mine’s kinda ok but very very old, plus it’s not black and I need a black one for my PC to look hip an gangsta, innit. Wandered round Wilkinsons too, but nothing really caught my eye. Ended up at Spitalfields trying to find a windchime, which I totally failed at. Still, nice food, nice pretty things to look at. It was heaving. The robots are back at the art exhibiton place, which is cool. Found no windchimes. Bah. Headed to tesco to buy stuff for dinner and then to the dodgy music shop in Liverpool St station for some CDs (best of Nyman, best of Sandie Shaw, Best of New Order, some dodgy Nick Cave stuff). Brief detour via a sauna (cough) and then home. Had some cool ideas for freakcity, failed entirely to find the motivation to do any of them though. Bah. Must book camping this weekend. G

And what have you done? Nothing. Did you miss me? No. How I hate you all, you and your foibles. Spent some time drinking on Thursday evening. Just a little pint, then a cycle home. Decided that perhaps it had affected me adversely when I bounced off a couple of wing mirrors, but then decided as everyone tried to murder me on the way in on Friday that no, it’s just the weather. What is it with motorists and weather? If it’s overcast and dull then they’re fine, but as soon as it either rains or gets sunny they turn into bastards. They take more chances, drive faster, give you less room, get more irate. It’s annoying. The person limping off the road by the George, as people collected bits of his motorbike up and dragged it off the road as I cycled past, would probably agree with me I think. And just as bad are the summer fucking cyclists, all flocking to the left of the road to stop any driver at a junction managing to turn left when the lights change. Wobbling about, cruising through red lights and nearly getting themselves killed just because they’ve seen a courier do it. Stopping at the slightest hint of a car and slowing the rest of us right down. Unable to cycle past stationary cars on the left. Incapable of any kind of speed away from junctions. Grr! I’ve put in a request for it to be overcast Mon-Fri, 8:30-9am and 5:30-6:30pm. I’ve also put in a request for some guns. Hopefully one of the two will appear before I go home tonight. Got into work on Friday to discover my boss and half of the account team looking a little worse for wear. Apparently, their “quick one after work” had morphed into “being shitfaced at 4am in a club”. So very little was done by anyone on Friday, cept us sober ones. Oh the humour! Had 3 pints after work and then headed home via Iceland and buy-one-get-one-free Fosters ( : D : D : D ) No summer cyclists, thankfully they all leave their bikes at home on Fridays so they can get shitfaced and attempt to breed in Soho nighteries and boudoirs, so I got home in almost record time. Possibly. Possibly not, might just have been the beer. Don’t think I’ll be doing 3.5 pints then cycling again in a hurry... Arrived back at chez me — mogs was smiling, which is a rare enough occurance indeed, but I believe it was simply explained by there being cans of bitter in the flat too. Complete with Bodettes or whatever it was they called them. Empty cans. The Bodettes. Sounds like a black soul group from the 60s. We decided after not-much-pondering-at-all that we should go to the Swan. “I would LOVE to go to the Swan”, enthused Mogs, much to my surprise, as the bar in question is actually outside of the flat. Effused even. It was a little disturbing. The Swan’s not THAT good ; ) Mogs attempted to pull someone on thingbox to play with whilst there, for once he succeeded rather admirably, although I’ve still not convinced the guy in question to join here yet. (Tort? Tork? I’m shit with names, although I’m pretty sure Lloyd will appear momentarily and correct me and make me feel dumb). So we got to the Swan, which was immensely dead. Drank some beer. I sat on Mogs until he bought me a pint (\ö/) and we nattered. Then Tork arrived and we generally had a good time talking bollocks about stuff, notwithstanding the crapness of the other people in the bar. He told us about his amazing sounding clubnight, ÜberThursday, which we’re all going to go to, and we generally chatted about music and film and stuff for a bit until the alcohol rendered us speech incompatible. Invited Lloyd after he finished work as I owed him some moneh and stuff. Plus I’d not seen him all week and needed to rant. There was a Kylie impersonator or something on...too tall. But things were pretty blurry by that time and I was getting pretty tired so I announced I was gonna head home. Much to my surprise everyone else was just as bored as me so we went back in a shiny cab via the dodgy offy so those<

+Friday+ I popped to Retro after work to see Sunin and the boys for his birthday. TJ, who isn’t meant to drink, did a spectacular job of only managing to be in the bar 20 minutes before inhaling half the bar’s supply of wine. I went home and slept lots. Saturday I worked for Phil doing some fun things to do with a new company he’s setting up, so I was doing flash work and using inkscape to create logos and the like. Was great fun tho I feel like I need another weekend. Was out with Freddie on Saturday, tubes were broken so I was late and he was half pissed by the time I got to the World’s End. Giggle. Went to Retro and discovered it to be empty. Headed off to the Kings Arms so Freddie could drool at a scary hairy thing...heh. Fortunately it’s summer so everyone was stood outside the pub and it was bearable. Drank a teeny bit too much, really. Saw Nich and Lloyd and Jay — some strange big fat hairy bloke started talking to me like he knew me. Odd. Coz I have no idea who he is. After the KA I thought I’d inflict the White Swan on Freddie for a laugh. We generally took the piss out of most of the bar, mocked the poledancer and then left. Got a cab home via the dodgy offy. It works thusly, you request alcohol, they wander off, stuff it in black bags and then give it to you at the till. So I thought I’d request the alcohol and then go straight to the till and pay, as I had a cab outside waiting for me. So I did. The alcohol arrived and I started to walk off, the guy behind the till, who’d served me not 2 minutes before yelled “oi, you’ve not paid”, which I had and was generally stroppy even though I insisted I’d paid. Wasn’t until someone behind me in the queue said “check the CCTV, that’ll show if you’ve paid” that they backed down and I could leave. Seriously dodgy... Home and watched some Jam and then Back to the Future for a bit and then bed. At 5am. Urgh. Up at 10ish on Sunday as Freddie needed to get back. Ate toast and then braved the outside world. Bank station, which had been partially closed (northern line branch shut much to my annoyance as it made me late to Camden Sat evening) had finally given up the ghost and was totally shut. So went to Canary Wharf and put Freddie on a tube. Wandered back in the sun and decided that I’d chill out for a bit and then go out. Chatted to people online for a bit and then headed off on my bike down various bits of canal and road to Tescos to buy some shopping. Sat on the edge of the canal, under the District Line, ate some lunch. Chugged along the canal for a bit. Slowly meandering my way home in the gorgeous sun, was ace. Best thing for a hangover, cycling. Not really sure why, but it just is. Got back home long enough to drop off the shopping before heading back out down the canal and then along narrow street and out onto the river, round Canary Wharf and up to Waitrose for a bit more shopping, some flowers, that kinda thing. Creme eggs for 10p! Munched by the river and then wandered home. Chopped up some of my fresh herbs, added the last bits of mum’s chives from the freezer and then mixed the lot up with some lean steak mince, a little balsamic vinegar and salt and pepper to create some rather yummy burgers, which we munched over more Twin Peaks. Then bed. At about 9. Heh. Was sooo very tired...

Today I am sleepy. And I need to sleep a lot. Tomorrow I may stay in and earn some coins. And sleep more. Watched a bit more TP last night, the transfer is beautiful, even if the features are lacking... Slept lots. Was out for a quick pint Wednesday which ended in amnesia and blood at around 2am, not quite sure how. When will I learn?

My Twin Peaks Season II DVDs arrived yesterday...spent the evening marvelling at the amazing colour and sound from them, they’ve been restored exceptionally well : D Watched the first four episodes (well, 1 and 2 are all squished together into a big long one : )) — I’d forgotten just how good it gets. Very very pretty... Made turkey roast and chips. Balsamic vinegar is lovely on chips. I have squirty balsamic vinegar, does that make me common? Even though it came from Waitrose? I require coffee. And toast. And sleep Is it next week yet? Requested my holidays for the year...heh. Will see if I’m allowed the June/July stuff. If I am then I shall get boat booking ; ) William has flown off again. Created the camping event, will see if anyone actually wants to come with me or if it’s just me on my lil ownsome : ’(

Holy rusted metal batman!

Tuesday April 10th, 2007 at 13:21pm

God. I think I need a weekend to recover from my weekend. Saturday I hauled my bottom offline and toodled to Barking on my bike (which is getting a little squeaky, perhaps time for some oil?) — it was a gorgeous day and only took me twenty minutes or so to get there. Arrived, parked my bike, wandered up to the FatShop and was told that as I’d taken the labels off of the jeans I couldn’t return them. Gah. What do I do with a pair of 52" waist jeans?. Left there feeling sad and wandered to 10th planet (or whatever the naff scifi shop is called in Vicarage Field). Wanted to find some plastic comic bags to keep them all lovely an stuff. They don’t have them there, they don’t sell comics (pah!) but they DID have a very VERY bored looking Iam McNeice who appeared to be there for a signing. And no-one else there. Poor thing. Was annoyed about my jeans and so went in search of a comic shop in Chadwell Heath on my bike. Failed to find it but eventually found Romford, which I wandered around for a bit and then went home again... 30 miles on my bike. Yay me. And I only ache a little bit now ; ) Collapsed for a bit and chatted to Jon online for a while. Arranged to meet up on Sunday. Dan came over Sunday, failed to get O2 to work as a modem on PAYG, suspecting this is because O2 are rubbish. Grr. Went and took him to the station to meet $woman and then headed off to Kent to meet Jon. Jon was late so missed the connecting train, got back eventually, got confused by a bus driver lying a little and basically spent about half an hour trying to get back to mine from Canary Wharf. Should have fucking walked. Eventually got on a bus that was going the wrong way so after a very scenic detour around the Isle of Dogs we arrived back and chilled. Had chinese, showed both him and Mogs Brick — neither seemed hugely impressed with it. Bah, I reckon it’s great. Earlyish night and then up stupidly early for no good reason. Decided we’d have brekkie out so headed to canary wharf (we walked this time) and slid a huge fryup down me. Jon had a pain au chocolat. Suspect that’s why he’s skinny and I’m fat : D Put him on a train with little effort then decided to go exploring for comic bags. Had a lovely cinnamon hot chocolate in Neil’s Yard whilst waiting for Forbidden Planet to open and then bought bags and the alternate Buffy Season 8 #2 cover. Immense fun ; ) Wandered to Vauxhall too and popped into Chariots to retrieve my bag. Yay. I have a Palm again : D Am giving up drinking again for a while, don’t want to be wasting my luck-points retrieving electrical goods that are clumsily lost by myself when inebriated... Miles phoned and tried to get me to buy him the dinner I owed him, I managed to escape by informing him that I was cooking and invited him over instead. I’ll buy him dinner next time I see him heh. Mum had sent me a recipe for chicken that I wanted to try, so I bought all the ingredients and then ran back home and got cooking... Preheat oven at 220° Take fresh basil and parsley, chop finely, take 200g of feta cheese, cut into four long strips. Roll feta in herbs, cut strips into 4 chicken breast fillets and then stuff them with the herby feta. Tightly wrap parma ham around them and place on a lightly greased baking tray Pop in oven for 20 mins. Take 200ml of olive oil, warm gently, add 25ml of balsamic vinegar and 8 sun blushed tomatoes and then add a teaspoon of pesto. Stir into a sauce. Cook al dente pasta twirls. When the chicken is done, put it on top of the pasta twirls and then drizzle the sauce on top. Eat with white wine and fine company. Et voila : D Bed at about 9 or something ridiculous. Was sooo tired. Still, at least I got in on time : D

Willies!

Saturday April 7th, 2007 at 7:41am

Alarms go off all over the complex. Three large taps jut out of the floor at 45°. Lights flash red as the camera pans along the taps. Oxygen spurts from each of them in turn as the camera pans past them. A man in a SpaceSuit(TM) runs down lots of stairs to the floor. Tightens each of the taps a little. The alarms stop. A woman appears from nowhere, also attired in a space suit. SpaceSuit(TM) Woman: You just saved hundreds of lives! (Flips visor(TM) so we can see how very pretty she is) Generic Male Lead: It’s what I get paid to do! SpaceSuit(TM) Woman: I can’t believe your modesty (Removes headgear and flicks hair) Generic Male Lead: I was hardwired for modesty SpaceSuit(TM) Woman: Should I thank you now, or later? Generic Male Lead: Howabout now? SpaceSuit(TM) Woman: (unzips. Breasts flop out) And that’s probably about as much of Total Recall 2070 as I’ll ever bother watching... Chris (clicky)
Chris
Out with Chris on Wednesday night, very messy. Bought a few books before he arrived, a very old fairy tale book published in Went to XXL and lots of things happened that I can’t quite remember. Up earlyish to admire each other’s hangovers on Thursday and wandered off to Selfridges to sniff perfume. Got sidetracked by deep fried chicken. We’re sooo classy ; ) Decided coffee would be the best idea so wandered to the Selfridges basement to discover that they’d let someone called Dadadandy attempt surrealism with varying degrees of success. Some of it was very cool, some was just downright odd. Fun though. Miles popped along too and we wandered through Oxford Street and to Covent Garden. Popped into Graphics Centre and bought more paper for piccies. Said hello to Lee at his stall. Popped to Forbidden Planet to grab both Runaways and Buffy Season 8 #2. Left both Chris and Miles at the station and headed home on le bus. Am liking Buffy Season 8 — very good so far. Intriguing, even, and the comic book format gives it a scope and grandeur that the series could never have. Plus...Giant Dawn : D Met up with Dan yesterday, not seen him in nearly 2 years, still looks the same heh. Chilled out at mine, tried to get his PAYG O2 phone to work as a modem, failed. He headed off at about 2ish and then I napped for a while an stuff. Sleepy me. Chatted to Danny, he’s got his sleeve done and was a little bit wrecked last night heh. Been fiddling with Joost for the morning so far. Hence the appalling Total Recall 2070. Interesting and sorta works ok. There’s an Anime channel and a cheesy scifi channel and an indie film channel and that’ll probably do me for now. Best thing is, I can do work on my main screen and just leave my other screen playing “telly” at me. Which is a little distracting but kinda neat ; ) Today I shall attempt to do Barking (if the FatShop is open). And then I’ll try and contact the lost property office of TFL to see if my bag’s shown up. Gah. Drunk is bad. Now I’m Palmless : ’( So maybe I’ll get back to being teetotal...

Jaysus wept

Sunday April 1st, 2007 at 21:08pm

I’m being really crap of late at keeping up my blog. Blame work. We’re launching a new site tomorrow and things have been hectic. I managed to work over an entire extra day’s worth of hours last week, *and* had to work Saturday too, so scary stuff indeed. Today I accidentally fell into Ikea and escaped with a £70 dent in my wallet. Oopsie. I also worked out how much I owe people. £13k. Scary stuff indeed. I’m paying stuff off at over £500 a month. Boggle. If I didn’t have to pay interest, I’d have it all paid off in 2 years at this rate. But I do. Bah. Anyone know anyone rich? ; ) Am tempted to run away somewhere next weekend. I think I’m meant to be off on Thursday so I might be out with Chrissypoos on Wednesday night, and then I’m free until Tuesday, so if anyone fancies doing something fun, let me know? Hopefully seeing Miles too, which’ll be nice. Erm. That’s about as exciting as my life is currently. How are you lot? : P
