TJ is a week early with the rent. And I just got a £270 rebate from British Gas. What’s up with that? Christ, at this rate I may have to start being cheerful or something...

Long time no speak!

Wednesday March 21st, 2007 at 7:54am

...mostly coz I haven’t done anything interesting... Working. Bought some bits at the weekend for camping. Finished bits in the events section, so there’s groovy extra features to play with. Planned a bit more of my world takeover. Was off ill on Monday as I’d got no sleep the night before and was feeling decidedly dodgy. Bleh. Out at XXL on Saturday evening, and then collected Lloyd and ran off to the Swan to meet TJ. Bumped into Incredibly Hot John and Darren (In the loo! The shame!). Chatted to them a bit. Well...I say chatted, Darren was wasted and sorta falling over a bit. TJ was quite taken by John. “He was at like every Windypops EVER, TJ” “Was he?” It’s the arms... Surreal! I ended up falling over myself when I got home. Quite literally. And not entirely alcohol induced either, the throw on the sofa sneakily wrapped itself around my ankled and leapt up at me when I got up to go to bed. Grr ; ) TJ has paid all his rent. And had enough spare cash to go processor/GPU shopping on eBay! All he needs now is to get laid and he’ll be simply unbearable. I may have to buy a cage... He’s been flirting lots with the hottish boy from Somerfields. Who is on fitlads. A little worrying really, he seems a bit special ; ) It’s disturbing having a cashier pointed out to you and then being shown pics of their sixpack later. I suspect Owen would approve, however ; ) Met up with a guy who I’d been chatting to for a bit at XXL. He wasn’t sure if he’d make it. Then he texted me and demanded my presence as he’d got a lift. A lift with Dom’s ex. Yargh! So apparently it seems I DO know everyone, it’s just that the world is a lot smaller than it appears. Bumped into paparazzi Dan and Drew at XXL, which was fun. No David. Hehe. Maybe he’s run out of bears? ; ) Dan was asking about Owen, I told him to just bloody well go round and visit him. Gays are hopeless. And if a single person utters the word “husbear” near me ever again I shall destroy them. With knives. Bears are dumb, slow moving creatures, with not much up top and a bad temper. They should stop trying to rise above themselves and simply accept their place... Jamie gave me a laptop. Kinda dead HD, so slipped one of the ones from an old libby into it. IT’s been ok now for a few days. Just waiting for my new wifi card to arrive (108mb/s PCMCIA card for £6...thanks eBay!) and I’ll try and get it online properly. And then I’ll try and resurrect the XP partition and see if that works too. Heh. It’s about 1/4 the speed of my actual laptop but it has an unscratched screen which isn’t falling off. It’ll do for a bit ; ) Going to see a flat on Thursday. Part buy, part own. Think it may be way out of my league, but I thought it’d be nice to look. It’s down by the canal in E1 and in a very very pretty area, so maybe I can make it work, who knows?

Happy Friday : D

Friday March 16th, 2007 at 12:14am

So I spent some time over the last few days overhauling the events system somewhat. I’m nearly finished, it seems to bo going pretty well. Just a few bits left. I’ve been getting up at 6am most of the week, doing a couple of hours every morning and some in the evening too. Means I go to bed earlier, but hey. Work is work. Bug fixing, doing special things. Not very exciting, but at least I’ve been getting away on time for most of the week. Been watching B5 Season 3 in the evenings. Fun fun fun ; ) That and reading stuff that’s horribly spoilery about B5:TLT. Heh. Going to go to XXL on Saturday, possibly with mogwai, depending on how he feels. Should be fun I hope, although it’s St Patrick’s day so will be a tad busy. All on my own tonight. Was meant to see gayrath as I’ve not in ages, but he’s been off work ill so may not be able to make it. So might just code more. Heh. << Changes to events section Added tags Added ability to preselect tags and be informed when events that match your selection are created Added views for events, my events and events I’m attending Cleaned up the event pages, making it easier to tell who’s doing what. Still to do: Invite external people Allow events to optionally be viewed/attended by external people>> Busy busy ; )

Weekend of length.

Monday March 12th, 2007 at 15:03pm

Meh. Long weekend. Or so it seemed ; ) So I’ve left home on Friday, cycling along happily and I can feel a rhythmic bumping, over and over. I pull over and there’s something stuck in my tyre. Now, I know from experience not to pull it out there and then in case there’s been a puncture, but there’s also the risk that if there hasn’t been a puncture and you continue cycling on it there will be a puncture later. So I weigh it up and decide to leave it, as puncture or not, there’s no hissing and I’ll probably still make it to work. Large chunk of nail (clicky)
Large chunk of nail
So I get to work and I yank a huge half inch nail out of my tyre. Which hisses and bubbles at me. They’re self healing innertubes, so have green goo in them that hardens over small punctures and stops the air getting out. However, this hole is far too big and there’s a mess. I wander into work, late, clean up and get on with cleaning up someone else’s mess. Some things never change. I cancel the Orange Team lunch I was meant to be attending so I can go a walking at lunchtime, wander down to Old Street and buy some puncture repair bits from Argos. Sit outside for half an hour trying to find the puncture, which I fail to do. All that green goo appears to have simply vanished. Grr. So, I optimistically pump up the tyre, thinking that perhaps I’ve been incredibly lucky and my self healing tyre has self healed. Go back to work. Bug fixing. Hah! Leave the office at 5:30 and the tyre’s flat. Grr. So I walk in the other direction and find a bike shop on Grays Inn Road where I buy 6 inner tubes (to keep in my desk drawer, in case of emergencies) and then walk back to my bike. Wheel off, replace innertube, eventually on my way home on a very squishy tyre for 6:30. Blurgh. Ah well. Arrived home to find myself in possession of the new B5 script book. Including a treatment for Season 5 of B5 that seems far more interesting than what we actually got, including a mystery man arriving on the station and claiming to be John and Delenn’s son, from the future, warning them to turn back from the road they’re on. And the rangers spreading out over the known universe uniting everyone under their rule and destroying those who do not submit. Which sounded very Dune Messiah. I often wonder if B5 isn’t just a bastard son of Tolkien and Herbert at times... Pint of chips! (clicky)
Pint of chips!
Saturday, Mummy came to visit we had planned to walk up to Broadway Market (near London Fields, Hackneyish) and have a bit of lunch and peer about. And for once, the plans worked out ok. It was a gorgeous day, not too hot, not too cold. Perfect for walking. We didn’t get lost at all, and it took about an hour and a quarter or so to get there. Walking along Regents Canal, it’s so pretty. Would love to live on the canal but I suspect it’s way out of my price range : ) Got to the market and tried some cheeses and then decided that eating lunch was the best bet before we bought all of the food on the stalls simply because we’re hungry. Popped into the same pub I went to with Neil when we did his pics here. Ordered a burger and chips each, chips were £2 extra and the barmaid told us that it’d work out cheaper to just order a pint of chips to share. A pint of chips?! Mike’s dream come true! Anyways, we ordered and sat down with drink. I (as usual) forgot not to order diet coke. Bah. Food arrived, burgers were gorgeous, as ever. And lo and behold, the chips did indeed arrive in a pint glass. Class in a glass! We wandered about the rest of the market. Bought some organic fairly traded decaf coffee beans. Behaved and didn’t buy the balsamic vinegar that was gorgeous but very expensive. Tried some chili sauce that blew my tongue off. Didn’t buy any organic meat because I didn’t take any cash out with me. Ah well. Wandered back to the D6 bus stop and trundl

So...

Wednesday March 7th, 2007 at 22:14pm

Last night I dreamt of being broken. Of needing a lower back block for an operation. Of not being right again afterwards. Of being awake as they took my lower back apart. Of feeling them move, but nothing else. Of being aware of my toes and my head tingling. And then I was out. I couldn’t walk but I thought it was fine. I was living in my old bedsit. But I wasn’t...it was a big shared house, like that one, but not. I found mattresses and made a bed (after all, I had been told to rest and to keep my back clean). I felt my back but it was all wrong and broken. However I couldn’t feel it, so it was ok. It’s all wrong. I was hiding from someone, I think it was Dan but I don’t know. And I don’t know why. Mostly it was a very very strange dream. Very strange. Fixed some bits of FC. Put a “most recently updated pics” section on the front page. Changed the picture commenting bit so it works better too. Yarg. Fun. Work still going well. Got my own PC yesterday so have been frantically trying to make things work right whilst doing work for the client which is less than fun when everyone’s flat out and I don’t know yet how to do some things. Vaguely cool though as now I know even more about eclipse/tomcat integration. Will hopefully have everything building inside of eclipse soon so I won’t need the damn maven stuff, but that can wait until we’re less busy ; ) Watching Lord of the Rings: Fellowship of the Rings. Was accidentally listening to the soundtrack earlier and myself and moogwee fancied it for a laugh : ) Uploaded a load of pics to my profile : )

coo

Thursday March 1st, 2007 at 8:00am

I got home by 6pm yesterday...on a work night...possibly for the first time since I left Sourceree 4 years ago. Found the best way to work too, so I’m going to try it this morning. And yay, sun! My greenhouse almost blew away yesterday. Thankfully TJ strapped it to the bars. He should try a career in bondage. Still not got my own PC at work, but was actually doing vaguely useful stuff in spite of this, which is good. Am getting to know the site reasonably well, set up tomcat from scratch (which I’d never done before) to run within eclipse and got it all working. Made me think about this ol site and what I should do — I’m considering buying a server abroad in a rack as they’re quite cheap...and then building here as a j2ee app. But I suspect I’d need to do a bit of testing first to see if it can cope. Ulf was watching 70" bear porn yesterday. The dirty boy. Fixed a bug in the forums. When a post is created, it’s “deleted” status is set to “false”. When a post is deleted it is set to “true” and the database is checked for any other posts in that thread that aren’t deleted (set to false). If there are no more then the entire thread is deleted. Amusingly, this meant that when I’d done something screwy in the SQL server upgrade — it wasn’t setting the “deleted” flag to be anything when creating new posts. Meaning it would scan for posts that weren’t marked as deleted and then not find any, and remove the entire thread. Oopsie. Also, Jerry found an error in the public blog code which was fixed : D Right. Off to work. Toodles!
