This is your captain speaking.
Oops. Broke freakcity a little this morning. Bad me.
Fixed (I think) the random logging out issue on the beta though. I don’t quite understand (or so it would seem) how cookie handling works in IIS...heh.
Bought some headphones+mic yesterday for use with PC when Danny’s too drunk to type. Which is pretty frequently. =P
Well...that and it’s fun chatting on skype hehe.
Added true unicode support to the Freakcity beta — it’ll now support all kinds of text, including Hebrew, Russian, Kanji, and Chav. So no more extraaneous random characters appearing in posts an stuff. Which is rather good
?? <== Serenity (well, tranquil/tranquility...)
Played with the format of blogs a teensy bit too.
so I pumped up my tyres a bit and headed to work, plenty of time, won’t be late as that’d look bad and there’s an audit going on. What happens? I get to Burdett Road and I hear a strange noise from my back tyre. Like I’d regressed about 10 years and found some spokey dokeys.
My bike is CRYIN I gets off and what does I see? Gah.
One of my spokes has ripped itself through the wheel rim and is flapping aimlessly about like a pointless cock. So...it’s a case of phone work, walk bike back home, get tube in. Only I don’t have enough credit on my Oyster for a tube and I can’t be arsed buying paper tickets so I get the bus. Time in work, 10:45am. Yay.
Apparently there’s a company somewhere called “Sick Puppy Casting” who, in their amazing wisdom, appear to have decided that they’re [email protected] — they’re not, it’s me. And so for the last two days, I’ve been getting actors’ resumes posted to my gmail account. It’s all very entertaining. I have 8 resumes so far, I’m considering opening a talent agency.
So someone has paid for an advert and put the wrong email address in. Class.

Bombs for breakfast.
Long boring pointless day at work yesterday. Almost finished fixing a bug. Even smiling makes my face ache. *snigger* Spent some years trying to get bits of CSS to behave appropriately. Now I’m fixing some other bits of media playing goodness for the trial that goes live imminently. My first trip to the lovely Madame Jojos last night, reviewing another band, The Envy Corps, for Londonist. Kinda unimpressed, it’s like what happens when you take a band that list all their influences and then construct songs consisting only of their influences. Technically they were good, but they just lacked anything of their own sound. There was an Oasisy one. There was a Blurry one. There were beatlesy bits. There were bits that were almost Ocean Colour Sceney too, but nothing hugely of note. Fell City Girl left me feeling I should go out and buy the EP. I’m still humming “February Snow”. The Envy Corps...I can’t even remember any part of their songs...not good. Still, I’ll probably be a little kinder in the review — they only had about 30 people to play to, the drummer’s pedal broke and was replaced mid song, the guitarist either broke a string or threw a tantrum (and his guitar across the stage) during the middle of the song before...I dunno. Poor things. Flown thousands of miles to appear in a basement. Chatted to Danny on the phone on the bus. At last, I’ve found someone to waste all my free minutes on Home and munching of snacks. No Freakcity as I was so damn tired I didn’t even bother turning my PC on. Sleep. Out like a light. Until TJ...grr... TJ drunken, I got up this morning (having been woken at 6am. Grr.) to discover something akin to KuBar’s cloakroom on my floor. Bob only knows how many men there are in his bed. The hussy. My bike’s rattling is becoming somewhat worrisome. Bah. Freakcity beta seems to have developed an interesting “I’m going to log you out, bastard” bug. Have whacked in a fix which (I hope) should work ok. Just testing it today...so far, no logouts. Set up a spam alias on novak. Upgraded spamassassin this morning but noticed that I was getting “bayes: cannot open bayes databases” errors all over the place. Perhaps this was linked to the sudden upsurgence in spam I have been getting? sa-learn --import seemed to fix this, so I’ve mailed sunin and deev to tell them too. I really should get around to setting up a “novak users” mailing list.

ppppie!
Got to meet Danny at the weekend, which was fab, even though we were both up waaay too early on the Saturday morning and so half dead for the day. Got rained on on the way back to the flat, had to hide up the back of the Colliseum as the path in front of us turned into a river. Escaped relatively unscathed, except for my right foot, which had become victim to a small lake in Old Compton Street. Had crepe and watched the world go by through the rain. We played gayspotting for a bit but that became dull due to the lack of not-gays. Wandered home. Sun. Pah. It was fucking sunny. And so we lay in the flat, in the sun, chatted, eventually started to get ready to leave again and the clouds gathered and a storm made itself known. Popped to the chicken shop, had a small meal-type thingy and then got the tube back to Hammersmith and Danny’s bus home. Wandered home via some buses (Ew. Can’t imagine why ANYONE would want to live in Kensington, if Kensington High Street is anything to go by). Stopped off in Oxford Street to look at the pretty pretty lights...wandered down to Virgin and bought some DVDs - Zoolander, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Leon, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Edward Scissorhands, about 7 others...oops. Home and watched Zoolander (hysterically funny...and so many cameos...) and then Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, which was fabulous. Forgotten how much fun Tim Burton films are. Noticed a cameo by two Jam people too, which was nice. So many references, so many little in jokes ("Oh my god, those teeth can’t be real!" and then 5 minutes later you discover his father was a candy hating dentist...) Johnny Depp was fantastic as Willy Wonka. Interesting to notice that Tim Burton was using the same digital smoothing effect for many of the shots as was used slightly more visibly in Ultraviolet... Bed earlyish about 5 minutes into the original Buffy the Vampire Slayer film. Urgh. Up pretty early for some more working on Freakcityness beta. Fiddled with some graphics a bit and fixed the CSS so it all works correctly when previewing themes on the settings page. Got the bus to Spitalfields and bought coffee and then headed to Stratford to buy some bits and bobs. Bought 100 CD-R and looked at prices for bits for my PC. Bought some food. Bought an A0 plastic frame for my SuninPoster. Tried to buy black bedlinen but there was NONE! Bah. Got home and set about hacking up the huge SuninPoster to fit my frame, managed to do a reasonable job I think, considering I’d never done it before. TJ was amused. Hammered things into walls until I’d managed to put the poster up - looks pretty good in there. Moved my sunset pic to the hall. Am thinking about getting another filing cabinet set to use for PC bits and bobs, my old silver box is getting a little battered and a filing cabinet would double as a lovely table in the livingroom. Possibly. I’m also about to eBay lots more VHS tapes. So if anyone wants them before I do, let me know? I have such gems as Kate Bush - the Line the Cross and the Curve Jurassic Park I and II box set Terminator II Buck Rogers (!!) Spawn Morrissey - Hulmerist U2 - Rattle and Hum U2 - Zooropa Dire Straits - Brothers in Arms Possibly some odds and sods of B5 I might make a toy for freebies in the beta... keep biting the inside of my lip. Owwwy. This weekend I am going to attempt to: Go to Hove and see Ulf Go to Hammersmith for 1pm to meet Danny Get to Somerset House for 3pm for ice skating Get to Pizza Express for 6pm for much pizza Go to East Croydon Go to XXL after Get home and sleep some Get up again and see Mum Get back and spend some time with Danny Do some bloke’s photos I am worried that I may explode. Oh yes...and CATS.

It’s a blog!
Got the tube in today as I might toodle out tonight after work.
""I’m sorry, there’s no service between North Acton and Ealing Broadway today as, same as last week, someone’s stolen the electricity cabling from the tunnel and there’s no power. We hope to have this replaced tonight""
boggle
Spent some time last night playing with bits of freakcity (again). User comments all work now in a rather fab and groovy kinda way. Changed the images for the agree/disagree icons. Let you add a comment to embedded images in forums, etc.
Look! It’s a comment!
Chatted to Danny some. Played TJ some of his band’s music, which made him boggle.
Ate cheap ready meal. Felt cheap but ready.
Earlyish night last night. Almost forgot to reset my alarm clock, after the amazing power cut yesterday morning. In which I turned the kettle on and blew the ring main.
Shocking!
Downloading something called “Aptana” for eclipse. It’s a web IDE. Will see what it’s like...if it’s good enough then I can commence development of FC under linux and kiss XPs sorry arse goodbye...
Cycled past a bad motorcycle crash last night on the way home. Bits of bike all over the road, the flashing lights of the policecar illuminating the still body on the ground, the policeman kneeling by his head as the ever louder wail of ambulance siren approaches from behind. I wonder if one day I’ll get careless and that’ll be me...
Ponderous. Haven’t (so far) run out of electricity this month, so am thinking I’m right in my rough estimate of how much we use.
Need way more sleep I think. Bleh.

Today...
...the sky cried out “snow”, softly colouring everything with ashen clouds. But the land still laments summer. Just a little colder. It won’t be long now...

oopsie...
Beta testing group - just added lots of bits to freakcity... I’ve prettied up the forums a little in day/night themes (more to come later). I’ve changed the layout in the forums a little to make it nicer. I’ve implemented “thumbs”...but slightly differently to those other websites, you now get +1 for an agree and -1 for a disagree I’ve changed the code on the front page a bit and implemented ajax voting things for quotes and links I’ve paginated the links file I’ve put big gay bubbles everywhere. Shiny. And now I go sleeeeep. Beta is looking quite nice. Be warned though, only the day/night themes currently work correctly and I’ve still not tested lots of these bits.

Things lost that were once found Ways closed that I used to like Small moves echo in grandeur Through the story of my life Things break that once worked well People away but stifled through Smallest shoes, no dancing for me Shining through the soft pen drew I feel so heavy when we intercourse Your hopeful face holding your dreams I live in this place with you at my side You smile too, don’t see what this means So fly all your flags And bite off all the land This won’t last You’ll be lost in blood So Shout all you can And fly all your flags This won’t last Your blood will be lost Smiling effortlessly you drew away Wounded me, made me forget The corners of my mind alight Flaming on through regret Sharply now, you cut like a knife But it’s referential, unconventional It won’t last as long as you hope It’s not like it’s unmentionable So fly all your flags And bite off all the land This won’t last You’ll be lost in blood So Shout all you can And fly all your flags This won’t last Your blood will be lost We fly. We march on We fly, we ride on. We march We ride Together we fly. The limits to this partnership The flip side to your hate The loss inside is the biggest part The sorrow I feel of late Different now, I appear to you You shy away, unsure where I begin And where your own nightmare ends Something doesn’t fit in So fly all your flags And sack all your bags And bite off all the land Bite off your own right hand This won’t last This is just the past You’ll be lost in blood You’ll be lost in blood So Shout all you can This is how it began And fly all your flags Your name on the body tags This won’t last You’re fading too fast Your blood will be lost Your blood will be last

Me.
you. NOW. bored. Working on debugging WML at the moment, which is less than fun. Installed SuperFast FC6 x86_64 on the PC this morning before work. Waaaay fast. Working linux system with hardware accelerated graphics in less than half an hour Thinking about doing some freakcity a bit. Thinking...one day I’ll actually get a round tuit. Watched EpIII last night. Was bored, TJ was out. Had to do something else to avert chewing my own FINGERS off on account of its absolute shitness. And now I have no eyes WML is teh sux0r. Serious. I can’t wait until we do XML-MP instead. What else. Oh. Drinking with straight bar tonight. I’m going to have some gorgeous organic beverages, much to the disgust (no doubt) of my compatriots. Thought some more about my script on the way to work. Almost enough in my head to start writing it I think. Keep having snatches of dialogue or vision in my head. It’ s wonderful... Think I need to do something this weekend a little different. So I might actually do something a little different. Must get suninbankdetails and deposit a large quantity of cash in there on Monday

Yo, mofo.
Been having a bit of an 80s film revival lately, partly due to the fact I bought Ferris Bueller’s day off $months ago and TJ really really liked it. So this time around I bought Ghostbusters (which we watched last night) and Police Academy. Fun fun fun. Although disturbing, finding Steve Guttenberg cute (again) I’m being pretty lax logging of late, but nothing *that* interesting is happening in my life, I guess... So. Since Fell City Girl, I’ve had my review of the gig published in Londonist (tho RobG has more reviews than me now. Bah), I’ve been found not guilty of having an intent to evade my fare on the DLR, I’ve watched lots of fireworks, I’ve had Miles down for the weekend for snuggles and fun photographing said fireworks. I’ve reinstalled Windows, having got my second drive. I now have a mirrored RAID1 array keeping all my data fluffy and lovely. I’ve bought some screws from the gorgeously fabulous “Clerkenwell Screws” shop that fit my laptop so it’s not falling apart. I’ve received a new power supply for it too, it’s also lovely. Also booked holiday in December. Am going to Edinburgh from 8-12th December...CelticLo’s off somewhere and leaving me his flat keys so I’m going to have a budget holiday and wander around Edin and stuff. Might also go visit Glasgow too, as I have friends there. Erm. That’s about it really. Took Friday off work to prepare my court case. So spent the morning pottering about and writing things, zoomed off to the RCJ to see a lawyer and went through it all, zoomed back home. Started watching Good Morning Vietnam whilst eating steak and chips, then headed out to meet Miles. I was stupendously late. Came back via Somerfields and alcohol and pizza. I was glared at until I indulged in a couple of glasses of red wine (and by that I mean two of them). Bed and snuggles. Saturday and we were invited to go see some bloke Lloyd knows singing in Foyles bookstore. Pretentious much? Didn’t stay long and instead went to Mr Topper to get Miles shaved. Always a good thing. Was somewhat surprised to see a young man under all that hair Went shoeshopping, dragged Lloyd into Shoe Express and broke him somewhat. Attempted to hug him better but he was having none of it. Found Sunin and RoB and then retrieved Sunin’s car from the MOST EXPENSIVE CAR PARK IN THE UNIVERSE and drove to Old Street to go to Expectations for some filth shopping. Bumped into James down there - much to our surprise - he apparently works there one day a week. Chatted a bit and caught up some. Much hugs. Miles got to meet him too, I’d not realised they’d not met before. Miles wanted to take him home but I suggested that his boss might not be too happy about it... Toodled back home and deminged and stuff ready for our amazing trip to see the Blackheath Fireworks - Miles took his tripod as well as his camera, something I wish I’d have done, as I just took the camera. Headed off at 6:15. Bought KFC en route. Jane broke a bit, so I reset her, but unbeknownst to me I also reset our destination. So having made it as far as Surrey Quays ourselves she suddenly sprang into life and proceeded to direct us back home. After getting out of the Blackwall Tunnel the wrong side of the river we decided that perhaps we should check our destination and then realised our mistake and reset her. So we arrived in time for fireworks, but not in time to find other freaks, which was a shame. Fireworks were excellent, although there was nothing particularly outstanding or stunning about them, just big bright bangs. Toyed with the idea of buying a “lightsaber” but didn’t. Took many many pretty pictures. Ate cold KFC. Lamented the fact we’d just spent an hour an a half in the car travelling 4 miles or so. Headed home via Tesco for alcohol and food. Watched Jay and Silent Bob and<
