Musings on a world I am no longer sure about
LOL
Ken on the MT list sums up the current court case and stuff: Prosecution: “It was HER.... there... that... GIRL!!! She did it...” Defence “It’s a fair cop guv, I went and gorn and dunnit. It were me right enough, you’ve got me bang to rights and done up like a kipper” Prosecution “Fuck...” Defence “Yep, that was me right enough. Breach of contract, breach of confidentiality. Official Secrets Act? HAH! I spit on your draconian bullshit” Prosecution “We’d like to drop all charges, please” Judge “WTF???” Press “WTF???” Public “HUH?” Tony “We’re only acting in the best interest of the defence and its best not too look too hard at these things or the...ooooh look pretty lights..” Press “WTF???” Public “HUH?” Claire Short (sensing a bandwagon to be leapt upon) “Oh, and we were spying on Kofi Annan too...” Tony “Fuck... I think I swallowed my grin” Press “oofyeh!” Public “Oh for fucks sake, here we go AGAIN” Meanwhile, in Libya, one President Gaddafi was seen pissing himself laughing... “What a lunatic! And they said I was mad???” Somebody, somewhere is drawing some pictures for Shrub, slowly, to help him understanderise.

Excuse me whilst I rant...
Fishy with kids in Iraq’s National Theatre “Ministers are to review the effectiveness of the Official Secrets Act after the collapse of the case against Mrs Gun” Claims the Evil World of Daily Mail Journalists via today’s Metro.
Now excuse me, but the prosecution called off the case - not because it collapsed - but because the woman in question acted legally if the war in Iraq was illegal and the government doesn’t want the legality of the war to be brought into question.
And so Tony “No More Spin” Bliar and chums are going to spin it so it appears the OSA is at fault and will doubtless be “strengthened” to make sure this kind of thing doesn’t go unpunished. Gah!
Must remember to go into politics. With a shotgun. Or maybe a hacksaw.
So...if you’re foreign you don’t get benefits. If you look Arabic you can be held indefinitely without charge. If you’re suspected of being a terrorist you have to prove you’re not. And we need to opt out of more of the Human Rights Act because it interferes with our “security”. Oh, and by the way, we accept confessions obtained under duress now, so we reserve the right to ship you off to Egypt for “special” questioning, OK?
All in the name of protecting our “freedom”.
But after this is over will there be enough freedom left to protect?
""Those who are willing to sacrifice essential freedom for security deserve neither." - Benjamin Franklin
Listening to The Wall on the way in...mmmMMmm. Not done in a very long time.
Popped into the pub yesterday after a long day’s work annoying programmers by requesting additional features that were in the design, but they seemed to not realise would be needed.
Had a couple of pints, chatted a bit to people, they all went for food and I went to CXR for a pint and to see who was about...recognised someone from shagdar but that was about it...
Got home, watched Angel, which was rather good. Pootled a bit online and went to bed at 1am. Ooops.
In today pretty much early - more JSP goodness. Think I may have to test some stuff on the mac today, which is a bit evil, but hey. Bodged a bit of JSP to make the page display correctly and get round afforementioned oversight. Dave looks hungover. He got in at 3am. Guess he gets a bigger oops than me!
Everyone seems very quiet today in the office - it can’t be the pub, there were only about ten of us...
Fishy has uploaded pics to the www.circus2iraq.org gallery, showing them in Haifa (Palestinian refugee camp) and both Magreb and the IDP camp near Baghdad in Iraq - go look.
I’ll be writing an edit function for them at the weekend I think - as otherwise I’m correcting Fishy’s spelling by SQL
On Monday, the US Education Secretary labeled the nation’s largest teachers’ union a “terrorist organization” after the union had the cheek to complain that education was being under-funded. The Teachers union president replied, "This is the kind of rhetoric we have come to expect from this administration whenever one challenges its world view." - Schnews
