Spent a week up near Edinburgh - it rained lots. American colleagues are annoying - one seems to have adopted me as her best friend. One of my UK colleagues leaves in two weeks and I think I’m inheriting all the shit he’s got. May move into his office as it’s bigger than my shared one. Work’s just madness and I’ve got about three weeks work to finish by Wednesday - that’s in addition to my ‘normal’ job but I’m going to offload that. Have to go back to Edinburgh for 6-7th, home for the weekend and then back up on 10th for the week. I’m wondering if I can persuade them to stick me in a hotel in the city centre for the weekend instead, probably not much difference between that and the cost of another flight. I’d actually quite like to stay here even though it’s a little bit out of the centre. Work means that I’m extremely likely to miss the next (dis)organised Shell camping trip : ( My shag for this weekend has cried off, which may be for the best cos I’m not sure I feel up to do anything this weekend. Got up at 6.30 this morning and Tescoed as I can’t stand shopping in crowds (as Tesco is about the best we get round here it gets very crowded, specially on a Saturday). Really should tidy as the flat looks like a whirlwind has been through it. Love some of the bits that scott is doing to the site - my hero ; )

Work at this week was made better by the absence of a member of the IT dept (although I don’t work for IT I’m situated in their space). Kevin’s very disruptive and everything seems to run much more smoothly when he’s not around, and the atmosphere lifts dramatically. Had my first day’s holiday this year, my boss says he couldn’t go nearly six months without taking a day off - wimp. Supposed to be on holiday next week but am up near Edinburgh instead (selling my soul to the devil again). Managed to dislodge the 20 year old - yay. Instead am chatting to a guy called Colin who also lives like a million miles away (damn). Wondering if I can lure him down for a weekend. Been out today with a bunch of friends (in evil cars) and found that one I’d suspected as a poof has nabbed the girlfriend of one of the others - how bizarre.

Hmm

Most of the past two weeks has been spent a) catching up with what I missed at work while I was away and b) clearing up the mess of what remains of what I went away to do. I find it extremely difficult to write deviations on a piece of work that someone else has done and a large chunk of the time I spent doing that was basically rerunning what they’d done on a test environment to try and find out why it had all gone so horribly wrong. And some bits aren’t reproducible, meh. Had to work the first weekend after my return to work to test a disaster recovery system. Thankfully it seemed to finally all work at this the third attempt. No data corruption leaving the databases less than useless - yay! Spent last Friday working down the local, Richard hadn’t asked me to do a shift for a while, and when I got there he’d changed all the prices on me so I had to keep checking shelves and pumps to try and get everything right. At the end of my normal working day the last thing I thought I wanted was a shift at the pub, but I do quite enjoy it once I’m installed behind the bar. It was, of course, quite warm and this brought a little bit of talent out to the pub (not much mind). I seem to have attracted the attention of a 20 year old (from another site) who is now professing undying love for me and wants to call me his bf. Umm but you’re 23 years younger and 200 miles away love *sigh*. Laid in my hammock most of this weekend doing nothing more strenuous than read a book, it was lovely. Monday comes around far too soon. Supposed to be on holiday next week but the meeting planned up in Edinburgh for this week has been postponed, so I guess I’m not then. Good job I hadn’t made any plans.
