Dear Miss Jones

Monday February 27th, 2006 at 15:58pm

I really need to devise some playlists for my walkman, and I did make an attempt on Friday night (but got a bit bored). I had forgotten how much I like Miaow by The Beautiful South as I skipped my way though multiple tracks on the train on Saturday. In fact none of the tracks on there had made it onto my first playlist, which I think was a bit of a mistake. I know it’s corney and cliched but ‘Especially For You’ gets me every time... Only buy this if you’re lonely Only listen if you’re blue If you are married and you are happy This song is not to do with you If you’re listening at your work place Feeling small amongst the men Do not sing this to your workmates This song is not to do with them But if you’re sitting on a barstool Wondering what on earth to do Don’t let them tell you no-one cares This songs one especially for you If you are listening on your radio Smiling while you drive along Tune the band into another Because this song is not your song If you’re working as a DJ Leave this record in it’s sleeve Cause this ones not for general airplay This song’s for the day (s)he leaves If you’ve bought this and you’re sinking And I think that you know who It matters not the mouth that’s singing This song’s one especially for you So this goes out to the lonely So this goes out to the sad And it goes out to the only One you felt you ever had If you’re there in total darkness With a letter in your hand Do not bother with the letter lust listen to the band So only buy this if you’re lonely

Could do....

Sunday February 26th, 2006 at 21:32pm

This week was much better than last week, well apart from being bored at work - and no I haven’t started looking for a new job yet (apathy rules) though I did find my CV when I tidied out some drawers in the office. Found a major bug with the system I administer and passed it back to the suppliers support people. May get an answer back in a couple of days unless they want me to escalate things faster (well no I don’t really, I couldn’t give a toss). Thankfully my boss is out of the office all this week (mainly in Mount Laurel, NJ) and then on holiday at the end of the week until the middle of the following week - hurrah : ) Spent most of this weekend in Manchester, or shuttling between home and Manchester. Decided to take the train in on Saturday and caught the 7.55. I soon realised why I really don’t do public transport. This train looked like it had been designed by Stephenson and originally pulled by The Rocket. It was also colder in the train than it had been standing on a Chester station platform. So much so that I had to put my gloves on. I bought a coffee from the little cart that was wheeled up and down the carriages only to have my change virtually thrown back at me by some unintelligible neanderthal. The carriage was full of the worst examples of humanity, including one ghastly child who looked about 8 years and about 15 stone - said child was mightily upset and said he was having a heart attack as he was ‘frightened’ by some yobs as we pulled into yet another hideous station (possible Warrington east or central or somesuch). I also want to know why on earth Newton-le-Willows is considered ‘historic’ when it’s actually just an eyesore of semi-derelict commercial property and vile little housing estates. Charles’ carbuncles have nothing on that place. Thankfully the return journey was ina slightly more pleasant environment (newer train) and as it was dark I could see nothing of the ‘great outdoors’. I drove back over today. All this was so I could spend time with some randon gayers from another place (no not tfw, kagoul this time). Pleasant company and some new friendships formed. Loved IWMN both outside and in. Want to go back alone so I can get to see more (always difficult when others don’t want to dawdle). URBIS is a little strange - underused is a word that springs to mind - though the funicular railway lift is fun : ) I now have a bad headache and need to lie down in a darkened room, think it’s called bedtime.

I’m afraid I wasn’t very good company for Aziraphale last night. We went to the Liverpool Academy to watch Jim Noir whose music is light and fluffy and trippy (and he was very good) and I stayed to listen to The Concretes who were a bit hit and miss. It’s been a strange week and I’m glad it’s over.

For the second time ever in my life I told someone that I didn’t feel the same about them that they felt about me, that I didn’t want to be with them. In both cases it was hard and the other party took it badly - I felt like shit the first time and I feel like shit now.

Escalators have their ups and downs

Sunday February 12th, 2006 at 15:43pm

So I drove to Nottingham and back yesterday to see a guy. Only just over a hundred miles each way, but three flipping hours (cross-country driving). And this guy was sweet and cute and lonely, and I don’t think that we’d be right together. So now I have to let him down - gently. Eek. And how can someone fancy me

I know, it’s 00.52 and I’m much too drunk to blog coherently - let’s just say that things have happened today (sorry, make that yesterday) and thoughts are whirling in my head. Will blog again in the clear light of day.

Ummm

Sunday February 5th, 2006 at 12:13am

Well mostly working this week, though sometimes I don’t know why I bother for all the notice that’s taken of me. Had an outburst at the boss who summoned me to his office and then sat there like a wounded puppy telling me he needed my help as he didn’t really understand things. Perhaps I should hand my notice in and leave them all in the shit. Went to see Munich straight after work on Friday - I know it’s a good movie but I found it a bit overlong and (well quite frankly) boring in places. One of those where you look at your watch and find hardly any time has gone past and how long the remaining two hours are going to be. Still Eric Bana was worth it ; ) Was supposed to be going to Manchester to see family yesterday but was struck down by gastric illness instead, felt like I was dying. Heating turned up to full and still couldn’t get warm. Much sickness ensued (that’s about as far as I’m going). Phone rang (once) at 3.21am and woke me up! Feel a little weak and disoriented today, but much better than yesterday. Have been chatting on and offline to a guy from Nottingham and going to go meet him next week. Could it be possible that I could find someone mad enough to actually like me. Well we’ll see I guess.
