The ramblings of a mildly incoherent mind...
Hitch-hiker
Bit of an up and down week at work, quiet some days others rushed off my feet. Late Tuesday was asked to take a trip to Riccarton in Edinburgh. Me and a co-worker had to take three machines up, install them and come back. Long day, not helped by the fact that the van rental company cocked up and decided we need the van Thursday and not Wednesday so we had to rush round trying to find a rental from elsewhere. That meant we didn’t get on the M56 until about 10.30. Journey was suprisingly good, some roadworks but no hold-ups. Muchos snow up north. Tried to get all three machines up and running only to find out that one appeared to be broken. So set up the other two and left the third. Got back to Chester about 12.30am Thursday so both of us were shattered. Had my usual bi-weekly meeting with the boss that afternoon who asked what I was doing in (to which I replied "I work here.") and told me to take some time off - so may have this Friday as a work-free day.
Had a bit of a bust-up with some staff over at one of our US plants (the one that was our sister plant). It’s ended up with me having to do twice as much work for one bit of a project because they’ve decided they want something completely different from us, despite agreeing to harmonise several months ago.
I’m going to start looking at robots - something I know nothing about (anyone here know anything?)
Was going to go and have a few pints of Guinness on Friday night, but couldn’t be bothered.
Watched the first three episodes of Firefly yesterday. I wonder does it get any better cos I didn’t actually think they were that wonderful

Give it some welly
Having been for a walk into the village I can say that the only way I’d currently get the car out is if it was a snow plough.

And the north wind doth blow
Well actually it’s the southern elevation that’s bearing the brunt of the weather - piling about 6 inches of snow against my windows. Looks like for the second weekend I’m snowed in. This is my eighth winter here and the only winter that I’ve actually been unable to get the car off the estate (apparently they had similar conditions Easter the year I moved in in the August).
Had a couple of horrendous days at work this week, and vendor support seemed very hard to come by. I think we may need to revisit out maintenance agreement and discuss how their (non)helpline can be made to actully work.
A couple of friends came round for dinner last night (no nice Chianti though), it’s always difficult with these two friends because one’s a vegetarian (which is fine) and the other one is a very fussy eater (that too is fine) - it’s just the combination that’s the problem. So I ended up cooking chicken in it’s pyjamas (parmigiana), a pasta bake and a mushroom risotto, which seemed to go down well.
I know people (if anyone reads this) will think “boring” but the F1 season got off to a cracking start yesterday with qualifying in Bahrain - the excitement mainly being provided by my favourite, lil Kimi, having a major accident with his car as the rear suspension failed in the first session! He now starts from the back of the grid but hopefully he’ll be able to make major inroads as the race unfolds. Roll on 11:30

Scarlet lips
And my hands are so dry that they’re really sore -almost to the point where it looks like they could spill blood at any moment. Ouch!

Typically Tropical
Well having had a dose of snow mid-week it’s stuck around ever since, and even been topped up.
It stopped me doing two things on Thursday (well it didn’t physically stop me but I did actually want to be able to get home to sleep).
Slipping and sliding around on the drive is so much more fun than doing on the road (where anything can crash into you).
My friend’s Punto wouldn’t make it up the drive last night so my trusty little car had to get out and do the business. It was a bit touch and go but I managed to get out and run her home. She came back with her mum and dad in his huge 4-wheel drive but we couldn’t get the towing eye in the front (I am so never buying a Fiat). Carli then says ’OH I’m a member of the AA should I call them?’ Well duh! An hour they say, so make that two in the real world. A truck arrives and the man finally gets her car aboard - only to get stuck himself about halfway up the drive.
More snow since, hopefully I’ll be stuck here all week

The Wright stuff
Almost crashed my car on the way out to Slimming World last night. It had been snowing about an hour and heading down past the pub where the road narrows there were some cars coming up. Hit the brakes and nothing - well could feel the ABS kicking in but the car still just slid forward and of course there wasn’t anywhere to go. Thankfully the car stopped before it slid into the hedge. Got down into Mold and nothing - not a flake on the ground!
Muchos snow overnight meant lots of it all over me as I tried to get into the car this morning. Going up the drive was a bit hairy, and the roads weren’t much better - looks like Flintshire county council hadn’t done a thing on the roads last night. A normal 15 minute journey to work took almost an hour, thankfully I didn’t see any accidents (there must have been plenty of them). Going round one of the roundabouts on the industrial park and there was a car coming round the wrong way. Took a good look and it was one of our production guys (aka Captain Chaos). He’d spun on the roundabout and was trying to get back on the right road. He followed me down to work and where we turn left his car just caried on and bounced off the opposite kerb. The only place I had a little skid was at the gate into works car park, it was like a skating rink!
Hope we have more snow overnight, I like dodgems
