*le gasp*
Well not much of a *le gasp* i knew it was coming but it’s taken him far too long to do it!
Talk about break my heart i have loved this man sincemy early teenage days.
Pop star finally comes out
GAY.COM
18 July, 2006
After years of unanswered questions, constant speculation and a certain amount of frustration, Darren Hayes, ex-lead singer of Savage Garden has officially admitted he’s gay.
While it constitutes news in some quarters, it also happens to be one of the industry’s worst kept secrets.
In a statement made on his website, Hayes states; “As so many of you have given me your heart and soul over the past 10 years I thought it only fitting that I too return the respect and inform you of the most significant event in my life.
“On June 19th 2006 I married my boyfriend of two years, Richard, in a Civil Partnership ceremony in London. I can honestly say it was the happiest day of my life.
“I feel lucky to live in an era where my relationship can be considered legally legitimate and I commend the UK Government for embracing this very basic Civil Liberty.
“I’m proud of who I am, and after what felt like an eternity, I’m finally in a place where my heart is secure and content. And I can finally make sense of all of the searching”.
The singer, who hails from Brisbane, Australia, started his musical career by auditioning for Daniel Jones’ band Red Edge. The pair went on to form Savage Garden in 1995. Their first single ‘Truly Madly Deeply’ went to #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 in ’98.
He divorced from his wife, Colby Taylor in 1999, a marriage which many believed was at best platonic.
By the time ‘I knew I loved You’ from the second Savage Garden album Affirmation reached #1, they were well on their way to generating sales of more than 20m worldwide.
The band split in 2001 and Spin, Hayes first solo album racked up close to 2m sales and produced four singles.
With legions of female fans screaming in the wings, Hayes has persistently knocked back rumours regarding his sexuality. In the past few years, he’s sailed close to the lavender wind by performing at Sydney Mardi Gras in 2005 and also at Heaven in London.
The flurry of appearances at gay venues, where he seemed more than comfortable with adoring male fans and half naked go-go boys, seemed to suggest he was hinting at something.
Despite these tentative steps, Hayes continued to dodge the issue. Directly asked about his sexuality by the Sydney Star Observer earlier this year, Hayes proved a master of the obscure;
“I find it so funny that we live in a society where you have to be something or another.
“I have never been easy to categorise is the honest truth. That is why I don’t get into it. Maybe I exist on a different level.”
After 10 years and 24m album sales, Darren Hayes and Columbia/Sony BMG have decided to part ways.
The announcement comes after two recently sold out performances at Australia’s Sydney Opera House as a part of his ‘Big Night In’ tour.
Hayes will be returning to the UK this week and plans to release a new album under a different label in 2007. //

Silly Old Woman
My flatmate had a letter from our landlady today about that washing machine that we had installed in our kitchen in our flat. This letter actually annoyed me greatly as she was saying that we did NOT seek her permission to have a washing machine and a tumble dryer. She knows for a fact that we have had a washing machine installed and was aware we were going to get one as we have mentioned this to her numerous times in letters and on the telephone. So... I rang her today to see what she was harping on about and it basically boils down to the fact that the washing machine will be using FAAAAAAAAAAR too much electricity and as considering we don t pay for our electricity this is out of order. I was always under the impression that the electricity was included in my rent i was paying each month, it was just the gas that was separate as we are the only flat in this building to have it as the rest are on meters for their electric and don t have a gas supply. She rather bluntly pointed out to me that i was naive and the price we pay per month is far too low to included electricity and gas. Considering i have never met the woman, was told nothing about how what is done and how what is paid apart from the gas bill, i assumed that the leccy was included. Anyhows, as the phone conversation went on, she started talking about how insulted she was by the fact that i had rang her instead of my flat mate to discuss this issue with her. considering we are both tenants in the downstairs flat, i have a right to ring her about issues she raises. Like she does in every conversation i have had with her she starts harping on about how people who have lived in the flat before us have never caused her any problems and how we are such a hindrance to her and she doesn’t need the hassle as she is trying to get everything together as she is selling the place. She started to insult my flat mate and then moved onto me, telling me that i have only been living there 5 minutes and i am already sticking my nose in other peoples business. I took so much of this and then asked her what her problem actually was with us having a washing machine and tumble dryer, and it turns out its to do with the leccy. I explained to her that we thought it was included etc etc and offered to pay extra for the leccy each month if she sends us a bill so we can physically see how much electricity we are using. She refused to do this as the bill comes through for the whole house and we wouldn’t be able to figure it out. I then put to her did she want to give us a price on how much extra she wants us to pay and she refused to discuss it. The conversation didn’t end very well, she said she doesn’t want somebody like me living in her property as i have greatly offended her by ringing her about this and she asked me to leave. I asked her when she wanted me to leave and she didn’t reply. I then asked did she want us to both move out or just myself and to which she didn’t reply either. I ended the phone conversation and said, if you DO want me to move out, please could you let me know. So i am still waiting to hear back from her. She wants to speak to my flatmate anyway, so we need to see what the result of that conversation is when it happens and we will go from there. But just to be safe we have two months tenancy left as they are re-newed every three months and we are going to start looking for another place to live if it all goes tits up. Now how do i tell her i cant afford to pay all of my rent this much as i’m down by £60 pounds. Any ideas on what i should do about the whole washing machine saga?
