Starting to get slightly pissed off with work now This did start off as a journal entry for here, but since has been chaged into a letter to the mangement at the store, it includes what is written below: I’ve sat down and thought about what I do compared with what I earn, and it is no where near enough to live on, I feel sorry for people who have bills to pay which I don’t as I still live at home. I remember when I first went for my interview, they were promising lots, which at the time of the interview sounds good, and for example I was told: # you will be send on a course every three months # in 12 months time you will dispensing varifocals, which is the highest you can get as an optical assistant # there will be plenty of opportunities to further your carer in the store, outside of the normal courses that S.O.G offer # Pay increasing every time you complete a CDP course So compared to those promises they said in my interview in reality I have done; # Two optical assistant courses, OA1 and OA2, both of now which are having to be done again as they have restructured the courses #Only ever been on TWO courses out of the shop which have been taught by proper S.O.G trainers, one with only relevance to the job that I actually do, CL1 and the other was a piss fanny course on selling with confidence, which was useful, but didn’t increase my pay!! # Pay hasn’t increased within my two years of being at the practice considering I am now working in the contact lens department, have been dispensing and also doing collections, which should be at least Contact Lens Level 2 and Optical Assistant Level 2! # Not having a single CDP course book signed off within the set period of time and then being expected to do the work within that level and being told off because I should ‘’apparently’’ know how to do it and have been signed off for it. Also back in the summer of 2005, I applied for a job at the Wellingborough branch, where I was promised the same in regards to courses, but I know Wellingborough would have delivered as I know people would have worked there and they could confirm this for me. Also another thing that annoys me greatly is that fact that sometime when we are short staffed I am expect to cover two departments at once. This is not physically possible! I can not be upstairs in the contact lens department and then be down stairs covering reception all at the same time. Also I have not had my appraisal for 2005 yet!! What I would like to achieve is: # To be signed off for any outstanding work books in an agreed time scales which suits myself and the allowance of the store trainer #Be sent on any relevant courses that are essential for me to do my job, for example Contact Lens 2, which covers teaches, and the basics that ANY contact lenses assistant needs to know # To be informed which department I am working in on what day instead of being told on the day, or being taken from one and put into another half way through a day. # To be considered a valuable member of staff within the store as, unlike a lot of the other receptionist can do a lot more task within the store! One last point I would like to raise as well is the shop fit, which I know many staff feel strongly about. Through out the shop fit we were promised better things, what has come of these better things? Nothing! We still have the same staff, well less now. Since my time at specsavers I have seen round about 12 people leave, some of which have been replaced, but the majority have not, which makes our work load double which we in reality should not have to do. Was the shop fit used an excuse to keep the already de-motivated staff there for a while longer? I have quite frankly had enough of it all and, if things don’t improve within the next 6 months, will consider looking else where for employment, which is a thing I would rather not do.
