Gratuitous flower shot I thought it’d be about time to update this thing. Never quite sure what to write here though, so I think I’ll mention a couple of things – firstly, it’s Freakcity’s 8th birthday this year. Secondly, I have plans to make it a bit busier, by dragging in some new people— hopefully not too many as I don’t want to upset the apple cart, but it’d be nice if the forums were a bit happier. Thirdly, if you’re new here, most conversation happens in chat, check it out. And fourthly, there’ll be some new toys to play with soon. Recipes, Freakcity local and TrueFacts spring to mind. There may also be an Android/iOS app in the works for the Virtual Box of Flyers...what that is, who knows?

A new year

Welcome to 2009, freaks and freakesses. This year we’re going to try a few things differently. Monthly coffee/tea/whatever meetings, bike rides, cinema trips, walks, shows, basically anything that gets us out and about a bit. Myself, I will be disappearing off to Berlin, if all goes to plan, for the first bit of this year. I will also be finishing some of the stuff I started and adding a couple of new features to the site that are almost ready but not quite. I’ll also be advertising a bit too, as it’s been a little quiet around here of late. Stay tuned!

Hopefully you’re all stuffed with mince pies, awaiting the excitement of arguments over television, having to hide the gin from parents and the ritual horror that is “The 300 best christmas hits ever” on Channel 4. And 5. And E4. And various variations.

So, friends, have yourself a grey cristmas and enjoy the holiday time. Don’t stress too much and look forward to 2009 with excitement, a little dread and possibly incontinence, depending on how much sherry you’ve managed so far.

As for us, we’ve some fun things happening in our 5th year — there’s our usual camping fun happening over August Bank Holiday along with some other bits and bobs that some of the members are doing. There’s going to be some new merchandise and new wallpapers. At some point there’ll be a barbecue or two and there’s also some changes to the site coming up in the pipeline too. Hopefully they’ll be finished by christmas but I’m always a bit rubbish at stuff like deadlines

Small change in a big world

Spring is sprung. Predictable cliché. Freakcity is five this year, there’ll be something exciting in the summer to celebrate this fact. We might actually get around to doing the boating trip this year. I’ll also be making some changes to the profiles and the forums as it’s getting a bit quiet round ’ere and it’s less fun when there’s no conversation. There’s a new chat thing and there’s a new auto event notification thing — fill in the form and be notified whenever anyone sets up an event that you might be interested in according to your preferences.

Welcome to. Er. Summer

OK, so it’ll be sunny again soon. Hopefully. Maybe. Heh. We’re going camping again in August over the bank holiday weekend. Current favourite is Glasto again, so if anyone wants to come, see event 808. We’re also going to Brighton Pride, possibly staying overnight, if you’re interested in going to that see event 788. Octoberbash is also approaching, Danny is rumoured to be doing something special as he’s 32 this year.

On the 21st June 2003, freakcity became sentient. It was soon after this that Belgium fell and the rest of the world quaked with fear at this dark power risen from the depths of hell. Well, this is what would have happened had I listened to others and written freakcity in an open source language, fortunately for Belgium I didn’t. Anyways, to mark this stupendous event we’re having a bunch of things happen. See event 758 for more info. Scott

Freaks on a beach

Freakcity camping comes around again, this year we’re planning three trips, the Stiffkey camping trip followed by the much anticipated boating trip, which, although not strictly camping, probably counts. Then, in August, we’re going somewhere bank holiday weekend. In the past it’s been Glastonbury but this year we may go somewhere else.
